Would love to understand why the simulations think Duke would have a hard time with Hofstra.
The single simulation elimination by scaachoops had Duke losing to Hofstra in the first round. 🤔
FiveThirtyEight's simulation was not kind to Duke (or just really loves 11-seeds): it has Duke losing in the second round to 11-seed East Tennessee State.
Interestingly, this particular simulation has three 11-seeds in the Sweet 16 (E. Tenn St., NC St., and Indiana).
FiveThirtyEight is revealing its simulation one round at a time, but excuse me if my interest in it wanes now.
Javin DeLaurier played a brilliant nine minutes, hitting 2 of 5 from three point range and only fouling once. Why didn't the Javin get a chance to fire away in real life???
Also, there is some chatter on Reddit (where this particular video game simulation is being run) on the accuracy of the roster. Because there aren't any great NCAA video games currently out, they're using a game from 2008 with manually updated rosters. Duke's updated roster either is missing Justin Robinson, or the player designated "Wendell Moore" is actually Justin Robinson, and the roster is missing the real Wendell Moore. Unclear which is happening, will see if it gets addressed before Duke's virtual matchup with Iowa.
Checking back on one flavor of the simulated tournament: fan voting. A couple of blogs and newspapers across the country are supporting a simulated tournament on tylt, which is open for voting to determine who advances.
As is evident, there's a flaw in this system--it's merely a popularity contest. And lo and behold, every top seed in the tournament made the sweet 16 except for one. Care to guess who that only top seed to be upset is? With 68% of the fan vote, #10 Rutgers defeated #2 Duke in the second round.
And this is why fan voting is much less compelling or fun than other types of simulation.

We need to value the ball more. Too many TOs. Bench Tre.

Vernon showboating while down 10.
Huge 3 by Javin keeping us in the game.
