And a gentle reminder that there is only one ball, and Duke is already loaded on attack for 2021. Among Robertson, Dyson, Brennan, and Basile, who sits to make room for Sowers?

A final note: Sowers has worn number 22 at Princeton. Although there has never been a formal announcement, that’s one of the two jerseys that has for all intents and purposes been retired at Duke.

yeah, I noted Robertson's petite size, didn't really think he was a fit for Duke but felt compelled to note the family connection...I just hope Joe is ready to go next year...

Embarrassed to ask, but what is the other number? Ned Crotty wore #22. No offense, but would have thought Greer and or Dano would rate more consideration. I would have thought maybe #10, but that is still in the rotation.

It's Danowski's 40. They follow the current basketball requirements so the Tewaaraton Award and graduation gets your number (unofficially) retired. Katie Chrest's number is not retired, but should be. We should also look into retiring a few Men's Soccer numbers for Hermann Trophy winners. The Tewaaraton and Hermann trophies are probably a bit more prestigious than the basketball equivalents since there is just a single consensus award.

Ned’s 2010 season was pretty epic. NCAA title (recall that he set up Max Quinzani’s game-winner in the semifinal against Virginia) followed by two fourth-quarter goals in the final of the world championship. And IIRC he was the first pick in the MLL draft.

I would argue for a Lyle Thompson Exception to the Tee requirement for jersey retirement, so that Jordan Wolf’s 31 could hang from the scoreboard at Koskinen. And yeah, I’m strongly in favor of a ceremony and banners for Dano and Ned.

At some point there ought to be a major ceremony for John Danowski, no? Winningest Division I coach ever, winner of three national championship and a World championship, plus an absolutely wonderful guy. Gotta do something like name the field after him, no?

dwhoops.com wanted a Seimone Augustus exception in their argument to retire Monique Currie's number.

Thanks for the enlightenment on the retired number. I had not made the connection between retirement and Teewaaraton. (I even forgot Ned Crotty won it.) And yes, Crotty's pass to Qunizani was a thing of beauty. Still remember how patient he was behind the cage waiting for someone to get open. Great pass to Max and great finish to score. That was a great weekend of lacrosse, although very hard on my heart.

Quint, re the ongoing Ivy League dispersal process:

“ I'm also predicting that Duke will emerge a winner because of their graduate business school and coach John Danowski's affiliation to Team USA.”

great article. Let's hear it for Lacrosse Socialism, the redistribution of assets! Hope he's right and we get our share, and then some...would like to think finding a Duke grad program acceptance for kids coming out of the Ivies won't pose too much of a problem...

I doubt we’ll ever get anyone from Fuqua to admit it, but I’ve always assumed it was no coincidence that the grad-transfer rule and the one-year Master of Management Studies program came along at roughly the same time.

From the Dept. of Delicious Irony: the defenseman who got hung on the crease on the winning goal was Ken Clausen, the only member of Duke’s 2006 recruiting class who decommitted when the scandal broke.

No idea in which direction they will look, but there are plenty of Duke alums who will likely get some consideration.

Hop lax has more in common with UNC basketball than school color. They would expect every D1 head coach to jump at the chance to coach there, including the elder Danowski (). Nadelen at Towson seems like an obvious choice, but I'm not sure they would tolerate his record this season. I could see them going after Dan Chemotti and Mike Murphy.
