we should be legit title contenders in lax next year with some major incoming talent like phenom Brennan O'Neill and a bunch of great young players.

Well, at least Duke lax ended on a nice 4-game winning streak. And Duke baseball finishes in the top 10 (or 11, depending on the poll), which is pretty cool.

And, hopefully, Joe Robertson will be fully recovered and back with two years of eligibility. The attack could be scary good.
Although I watched Matt Danowski in person several times, I never saw him play with Zack Greer. I have heard some speculation that the offense could be at that level for the next several years.
yes, Quint Kessenich (who really knows his stuff) said that O'Neill with a returning Robertson and current freshman Dyson Williams would be as good as any attack unit in the country...I'd say far and away the best.
Hopefully we also get Stephenson back, the freshman in '19 who had the ultra nasty leg injury in May...gobs of talent on the roster.
And the discussion of providing an additional year of eligibility for spring athletes raises some interesting possibilities. The midfield this year was senior heavy—Lowrie, Lindsay, Quigley, Smith, Walsh and Leischow. Throw in Giles-Harris, Manown, Uppgren and a few others I am probably forgetting, and you have a strong roster even before the #1 recruiting class in the country arrives.
Yes, the little I have read on the topic suggests that, if the NCAA goes this route, it will increase the number of scholarships allowed for spring sports. Then, I assume it will be up to the athletic departments to find the money. However, unless the financial aid rules have changed in the last ten years, I believe that there potentially is more general scholarship money available to graduate student athletes. At least in the past, I believe general scholarship money was awarded to grad students without evaluating the financial resources of the family.
I would love to know the explicit rules of lax and baseball scholarships...both have very limited scholarships, twelve and a fraction each I believe.
They give fractional scholarships, but even a half scholarship at Duke leaves a residual $30,000 bill, right? So the question is, can Duke also throw in some other money as well, since regular students often don't have to pay the full list price?
For example, if a kid gets a half scholarship he has to pay let's say $30k...but perhaps if he were just an ordinary student, he'd only pay $30k depending upon his family's financial situation, in which case they wouldn't need to offer the scholarship.
That’s a good question and I don’t know the answer. When our children were athletes at Duke 10-15 years ago, a few of their teammates and friends were receiving partial athletic scholarships, but I suspect the parents were paying the balance because their children did not qualify for general financial aid.
Here is an article that appeared yesterday on the Inside Lacrosse website and that reviews the status of the NCAA's consideration of the extra year of eligibility for spring athletes. The article also notes that several conferences, including the Ivy League and Patriot League, currently have rules that prohibit grad students from participating in athletics.

There's a good UNC joke here somewhere. I'm not talented enough to think of it. It's also a stupid rule even if we benefit from it.
You could have a major restacking of the deck with our competitors. That 5th year at Harvard or Colgate may now be with Towson or Albany. We should expect to lose a couple players and recruits if this happens.
of course a number of those Patriot League schools are quite small and do not have much in the way of graduate programs...
And no staying another year for the Patriot League USNA and USMA grads as they will be commissioned officers.
AFAIK, there has been no indication from the Ivy League as to whether it will allow graduate students to play in 2021.
It’s unlikely to happen, but just for a moment imagine a Duke starting attack of Brennan O’Neill, Jeff Teat, and Michael Sowers.
FWIW, Duke men’s and women’s teams were ranked 8 and 17, respectively, in the final media polls.
The Duke - Richmond thriller from this year is being aired at 6 tonight on CBS Sports.

Just hope our seniors will be able to get into Duke grad school if they so choose.
