I agree. As I typed my response, I thought of other things, such as investing in clean indoor air systems, but didn't feel like getting into it right now.

    Long Covid update from YLE

Your Local Epidemiologist has a summary of the latest news about long Covid, which is easy to read and I found it interesting. It also has a link to a YouTube video by a person who used to do regular YouTube videos about physics, but nail is completely disabled by long Covid. Warning: it is a very moving and sad video.

    Raccoon Dogs?

New study, not yet published, says raccoon dogs may have been the species from which Covid spilled over into humans:

I was reading about this. Apparently, their fur is often used as "fake" fur in clothing. Blech.

we are cutting way back on our raccoon dog intake. This would seem to cast even more doubt upon the flimsy "escaped from the lab, low probability" theory...

Just don't eat it rare. You want your raccoon dog steaks and burgers well done.

Am I the only one who was not aware of the existence of raccoon dogs until today and also think they may be fake?

Are you saying that raccoon dogs aren’t real?

I had never hear of them, either, but then I had never heard of pangolins until COVID. There are all kinds of weird creatures around the world.

I had never heard of them. And I'm not sure how I feel. Love dogs. Hate raccoons. The term "raccoon dog" makes me think of Cousin Eddie from Vacation/Christmas Vacation.

You can read all about raccoon dogs here (apparently considered to be a delicacy in some parts of China):

wandering thru large Chinese markets can be fascinating (and a bit troublesome)...we loved the ones in San Francisco, a really broad array of stuff we do not personally eat...a friend of ours who got aquaculture degrees from UNC-W works for a large fish farming company (barramundi are the fish) and their primary market is Chinese and Asian markets all over the US who greatly prefer buying live fish, that's the way their customers like them, alive and frisky, just like their raccoon dogs.

Racoon dogs are nasty looking creatures, to be sure, but they are real.

Must spread sporks yada yada yada

What's the over-under on % people here who get that reference? I thought about adding a video but, meh, not in the mood. Let those who don't get it look it up.

That is basic cultural literacy for anyone over 40. No soup for anyone who doesn’t get it.
