We don't often see slates in which 3 of 4 ACC teams playing non-conference games are underdogs. And in the one game in which the ACC team is the favorite, the "opposition," according to the (early) metrics, is the worst team in Division 1.

An opportunity to look at two future opponents against each other as Virginia Tech and Michigan State square off in Maui.

Virginia Tech has looked good in the 1st half with excellent ball movement.

VT now up 10 with under 5 to play. If they can do this consistently, they are going to be a tough out for anyone this year. Or are they playing their best game of the year? I guess we'll have to watch and see.

Guess we should enjoy being #1 for about another week...

This game reminded me of the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games in DC last year. 2 of my least favorite fan bases, with Buzz and Izzo dancing all over the court. So I was kinda pulling for the meteor. Mike Young does seem like a good guy, though.

    Facts:

    1. Virginia Tech received zero points in either poll this week, despite being 4-0 (now 5-0) with a road ACC win. As a point of comparison, their next opponent is Dayton, and the Flyers have 1 point in this week's AP Poll breakdown.

    2. Landers Nolley II, who hit the last two field goals for the Hokies and had 22 points today, was ACC Freshman of the Week in Week 2. (Cole Anthony won in Week 1, and Vernon Carey had the honor last week.)

    Opinions:

    1. I imagine they'll get a few votes next week, regardless of what happens in Maui.

    2. There's a distinct possibility that Nolley becomes the first repeat winner of ACC Freshman of the Week, taking a surprising early lead on the season's race. Vernon Carey doesn't have a tournament to play this week, and Cole Anthony won't play a team considered as good as Michigan State.

ACC may be a bit tougher than we thought.

The most amazing thing about that is Pitt was 1-16 from three (6%!) While K St was hot from downtown shooting 10-20! That's a 27 point difference to make up...and somehow they did it.

Had to watch the highlights - gut wrenching (unless you hate Pastner and GT for whatever reason). Poor guys.

Mason Jones, who hit the shot, is the younger brother of Duke's Matt Jones.

The week before, one writer actually had them 18th. He dropped them this week, which makes me think he gave them a vote by mistake, because they did nothing to warrant being dropped.
