FB: Duke vs. Pitt 10/5 8PM (ACC Network)

While scrolling through the cable guide this morning looking for “ Doc McStuffins”, I found the replay of the Pitt game. Since it was 26-3, I knew I’d enjoy *most* of the rest of the broadcast, and since I was in WW until the bitter end, (are we sure it wasn’t an incomplete pass? Can’t we have one more play??)...I was curious to hear the announcers’ take, etc...

90 seconds left now pretty ready to turn it off... sigh. Btw, Let’s Go pit is *almost* as offensively as that horrid “tar... hells “ (sic x2)

Raised a question. What song does the band play after Touchdowns? Does it have DUKE-specific words? I’ve never heard it played in any other situation...

Somebody upthread mentioned the shuttle buses. I was looking for one after the game, and couldn’t find the loading spot ( I had walked into the stadium but knee was aching, would have loved a ride back but never found one.

Although I was in the band 50 years ago I can’t remember the name, but to my knowledge the song has no words. I assume it was a tradition from the early days of Duke to play after every touchdown. Also, it is quite short so it’s over before the PAT.

Anybody heard updates on all of our walking wounded?

Even though I was in the band over 50 years ago I don’t remember the name. To my knowledge it has no lyrics, simply a tradition to play after every touchdown. Also it is quite short so it doesn’t interfere with the point after. Hopefully someone with a better memory will supply the name and correct any mistakes in my response.

The song is called "The Whip" and has been played after each touchdown for at least 42 years (going back when I was a freshman in DUMB, and I'm sure it goes back a long way before that.)

The band also plays it when the team runs out of the tunnel during pregame.

Fun fact - Pittsburgh's Paris Ford - the player who lost a fumble to Duke on his 5 yard line, committed two 15 yard penalties, was ejected for targeting and had to be escorted out by two police officers while screaming and complaining to the officials has been named the defensive back of the week by the ACC. He did have 2 interceptions, one for a TD and 12 tackles.

About as good as French who after being called for a penalty proceeded to get into an altercation with his own teammate, had to be restrained by the assistant coaches, chastised by the head coach...before being promptly put back in.

We made some dumb penalties, I thought some penalties called were dumb, but I'd like to think we handled ourselves better after said incidents than Pitt did. Small consolation though. To be honest I thought we didn't deserve to win last night, but it sure did suck losing the way we did.

I thought we deserved to win until we undeserved it after that last Pitt drive. Both teams made plenty of mistakes. Our comeback was excellent.

I could be wrong, but from my seat behind the Pitt bench, I kinda thought he might have been yelling at his defensive teammates on the field, to fire them up. If he had been yelling at the refs like that, surely they would have tacked on another 15, right? Ok, well, maybe not that ref crew.

You are correct in that some of his yelling was so directed.

I think you are missing at least one leading F in the spelling of his name. Not sure why he has a redundant F, but there you have it.

You are being most kind to call the offense "inconsistent." Outside of the opening FG drive, the offense was nothing less than dreadful for just about three full quarters...a total of six first down deep into the third quarter, and most of them on the opening drive.
Of particular concern to me was watching our wide receivers run their routes...they almost never got open, period...kept looking for Bobo or Young or Bracey to break free, but they rarely, the Pitt DBs both good and aggressive (sometimes too much so).

I'm late to the party as usual, but some thoughts on the game: I agree about our "inconsistent" offense. It was consistently bad for most of the game and our receivers have such a hard time getting separation. I know Harris had a terrible game but some of that belongs on the receivers as well. I thought our defense was superb the entire game and yes the prevent defense drove me nuts. When your QB gives the ball to the other team 5 times, it usually tires out the defense and the game get's out of hand. But our Defense stepped up and played their hearts out. I'm really proud of them. Then you have some strange coaching decisions that didn't help our guys. The fake punt was one of those strange decisions. I guess our coaching staff thinks our opponents don't look at our previous games and plan for plays like that. But we got lucky and held them. I really wanted Duke to beat those punks from Pitt but not to be. I'm hoping Q get's it together this week and we beat GT badly. GoDuke!

I rarely think Duke gets out coached and out prepared, but Pitt's D was better prepared and better coached last week than our O. Looks like Duke's O changed up a lot, and QH and his receivers were not in sync on several plays. The protection calls were not in sync. Harris never looked comfortable all night. He made some poor decisions, and some poor throws. Very disappointing. Opportunity lost.
