Matt Christensen came to Duke in 1995-96, classmate with Taymon Domzalski. Vince Carter was a freshman down the road.

    Christensen played sparingly that year.

He undertook a Mormon Mission in Germany in 1997 and 1998.

Came back to Duke and redshirted in 1999.

Played in 2000, 2001 and 2002, ending his career as a 25-year-old, seventh-year senior. His teammates called him Uncle Matt.

Put it another way, his career overlapped with Chris Collins and Daniel Ewing.

    Jim,

Was Uncle Matt the oldest ever Duke basketball player? Did any other Duke player’s career span over such a long period?

John Seward's career spanned 1942 through 1947 with a stay in a German POW camp in between.

He might not have been as old as Uncle Matt but I suspect Uncle Matt's time in Germany was more pleasant.

WWII did interrupt a lot of careers. However, I do not have a data base from the 1940s to determine age.

And while in the POW camp, he attended as many classes as the entire unc starting lineup that year. (Or any year)

    Year? We're talking decades here...
