    2019-20 TV Ratings Thread

The Alabama game averaged 4,641,000 viewers. For those keeping track from prior years, that's more than any primary broadcast of a non-NCAA Tournament Duke Men's Basketball game from last season (with a longer broadcast, meaning more commercials to sell).

Thanks for the numbers. To be fair though, the football game was on ABC (I think?) whereas basically every basketball game during the season is on cable except for like one or two CBS mid-season games, right? I assume network TV gets more eyeballs than cable. Not saying that would have made the difference but impossible to know for sure what Duke-UNC would draw on ABC.

Assuming that Facebook's live viewer count was accurate, it looks like the Middle Tennessee State game peaked at just short of 4,000 viewers. On average, it probably would be counted as averaging 3,000 viewers if we want to compared it to television ratings.

Actually, the count would be the equivalent of household ratings on the television side. I guess we would need to estimate the number of people watching per household to get the viewership. That by the way, is why accurate ratings systems cost the television networks money. Getting a precise number that advertisers are willing to pay based on is not simple.

Doesn’t that number seem ridiculously low? Only about 2,000 viewers per school for a game not televised by anyone else. Of course without DBR thread, I wouldn’t have figured out how to use wife’s Facebook account to watch the game.😎

Any idea of the Pelicans TV ratings? I'm aware it's only exhibition season, but it seems to me the Zion effect has permeated the NBA !

137,000 viewers on average for Monday's game. 1,000,000 average viewers yesterday, which is lower than the numbers for Lakers-Warriors on Saturday.

So the men's basketball debut got a little more than half the audience of the football debut. This tells me that Coach K is slowly turning Duke into a basketball school.

My not so scientific counting during the Women's Basketball game at UNLV says an average of about 200 households during the broadcast.

Just so that people know, the ACC Network is not a nationally rated network. That means that ratings for it are not available with the usual sources. ESPN may pay separately for non-regular ratings for it or use other metrics to sell ads, but unless they report numbers, we are unlikely to ever find anything about it.

There are more than 200 households represented on the board that watch Duke on ACCN.

The quoted number was (perhaps tongue sightly in cheek) for the women's basketball game against UNLV last night @UNLV. Not for a men's game where certainly the are more than 200 households on this board watching.

Oh, I know. My reply was also tongue in cheek. I am unsurprised that Duke men's basketball gets higher ratings, even on the much maligned ACCN.
