I certainly don't have the knowledge that you do on this topic, but could perhaps other jobs could count towards the 5 years, but they only need to be in Congress for a day? In my state, as an example, there are reports of state gov't workers who had a substitute teaching job for ONE DAY, and ended up getting hundreds of thousands more in pension money over their expected lifetime than they would have gotten otherwise (no, I'm not joking). They qualified on the "time" because of their other gov't job, but needed the single day of teaching in order to qualify for those benefits. (This loophole has now been closed supposedly.)

Maybe to get on that sweet congressional health care plan and knock a few items off your medical to do list?

People have worked a single day to get a Social Security credit (40 credits needed to collect). Some have even paid an employer to employ them for a single day.

Turned on the TV to watch the final round of the Masters here in Georgia.

Commercial One: Warnock is a radical socialist who hates America.

Commercial Two: Kelly Loeffler is a felon grifter illegally making money on our COVID misery.

I really hadn’t planned on drinking this early on a Sunday.

I heard on the radio that $500 million spending combined is within the realm of possibilities for these races. I would suggest ample use of a DVR for the GA posters.

A Super PAC associated with Roger Stone is urging Georgia voters to boycott the Senate runoffs and write in Trump's name instead.

Mitch must be freaking out at this point.

The group, dubbed the Committee for American Sovereignty, unveiled a new website encouraging Georgia Republicans to write in Trump’s name in both of the upcoming Senate runoff elections, which could determine the party that controls the upper chamber during President-elect Joe Biden’s first two years in office. The PAC argued that doing so will show support for the president in addition to forcing Republicans to address the wild election-fraud conspiracy theories floated by Trump supporters and members of his own legal team.

The effort is representative of a broader push among some of President Trump’s most devoted supporters to withhold support for the two Georgia Republican senators facing competitive runoff challenges, Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, in the hope of leveraging the party’s fear of losing the U.S. Senate to get more establishment backing for their drive to change the result of the election. The goal, those operatives say, is to expose a supposed vast election-fraud conspiracy abetted by high-level Republicans in Georgia’s state government, including Gov. Brian Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.

Is there even a write-in option for a runoff ballot? Even the political infighting is marred by incompetence.

    Very interesting, thanks.

As someone who did not vote for Brian Kemp, I find some humor in the crap he's taking from Trump & Co after being one of the most loyal governor lackeys of Trump.

I guess loyalty doesn't go both ways here -- who could have guessed?

By most reasonable historical analysis, the GOP candidates should be favored here. But the Dems are super-focused and the GOP is in a circular firing squad right now. I wouldn't know how to bet a pie on this one if I could.

Georgia does allow for write-in candidates on the ballot, at least in the general and primary elections. Not sure about the runoffs.

I thought by law they were ineffectual here, though.

Doesn't having a third option defeat the whole point of a runoff? What happens if enough people actually fill it in and both candidates fail to get to 50% again?

EDIT: The article confirms there is no "write-in" option on the runoff ballot: "The Committee for American Sovereignty’s strategy faces some significant obstacles—chiefly, that there is no space for write-in candidates on Georgia’s runoff ballots, which simply ask voters to select one of two candidates."

I have not received my ballot yet, but checking the SoS website the sample ballot does not appear to have a write-in option.

Rules? Who cares about rules. Anyone of this mindset will go ahead and write Trump's name in anyway, line or not. Which will invalidate the ballot so someone will still get 50%+1. It would result in the same outcome for the Ds, and I expect them to wholeheartedly support this strategy by Roger Stone. Heck, they'll probably even support his pardon now.
