I see we're attacking this from different directions. I'm thinking which fan base would object to least (or support most) a replacement owner. Let's call this "Support for Replacement Owner", or SRO.
Even when the resume reads "has a pulse"*, SRO for a new Redskins owner is off the charts compared to other franchise fan bases. Or, as this article says: Think Your NFL Owner is Bad? Dan Synder's Always Worse.
*To be clear, I believe you'd bring more to the table than "is alive".
Outside of playing football for about 4 decades (mostly competitive flag as an adult) and watching lots of football, I have no qualifications to take over an NFL team. Having said that, I think I could take over the Redskins and make them better (although the bar is set really low so that's not saying much). Never have I seen Redskins fans so frustrated (and that included myself...4 games in an apathy is the best I can manage on a good day).
I might have to stop watching NFL games on Fox if they're going to continuously do wrestling tie ins all the time. Ugh.
The Texans beat the Falcons 53-32 today, which was an act of scorigami, a score that has never happened before in the NFL. I think last week's 55-40 Bucs win was also a scorigami.
Daniel Snyder firing coaches is like Thanos’ favorite line: inevitable.
I love how the Redskins didn't think Jay was worthy of being fired last week, after they had laid a season-long egg and were 0-4. Just had to wait to see if they would go to 0-5?
Did anybody really think they were going to beat the Patriots? LOL.
"We are not provided with wisdom, we must discover it for ourselves, after a journey through the wilderness which no one else can take for us, an effort which no one can spare us, for our wisdom is the point of view from which we come at last to regard the world." --M. Proust
To be fair to Snyder, he didn't dilly dally and string Gruden along today.
The Washington Redskins had little concern for Jay Gruden’s sleep cycle. The team wanted to fire their coach, so they scheduled a meeting at an inhumane hour, 5 a.m., to inform Gruden of the end of his tenure as the Redskins coach, according to the Washington Post.
Demented and sad, but social, right?
How does Earl Thomas NOT get suspended for hitting Mason Randolph in the cheek with the crown of his helmet?????
Randolph, 6' 5" just released a pass with his head up. Thomas, 5' 10," jumps UP to hit Randolph in the face with the CROWN of his helmet. There's approximately a 4' target zone (between the knees and shoulders) for Thomas to legally strike Randolph with his own facemask or with his shoulder pad, but Thomas' sole point of contact is with Randolph's head.
In summary, he:
- LAUNCHES with the crown of his helmet - which is illegal, automatic ejection, automatic fine and possible suspension
- Targets the head of an opponent - which is illegal, automatic ejection, automatic fine and possible suspension
- With prima facie intent to injure the most important player of the opposing team in a rivalry game, (why else launch UPWARD at his head? not even close to a legitimate attempt to tackle)
This battery is more egregious than Burfict's attempted decapitation of Jack Doyle. At least Burfict's tackle was of a player lowering his helmet level and was arguably just mistimed (because Burfict had lowered his head to impersonate a missile). If Randolph had lowered his helmet, Thomas would have missed!
What am I missing - except maybe perspective
Yeah, Burflict was suspended as a repeat (repeat, repeat, repeat...) offender, not for the severity of that particular hit. He's also an unapologetic offender (aggressively so, from what I recall). His response has always been "sorry, that's how I'm going to play" as opposed to "I'm trying to play the new way but its tough" which probably didn't earn him much leniency.
That was my take on this as well. What Redskin fan didn't think that we'd get killed by the Pats and that JG would be fired? If only Bruce Allen and Manusky could be let go as well. A friend of mine told me that our defense played pretty well yesterday and got no help from the offense. My response was that the Redskins spent a lot of high draft picks and $$ on the defense and it shouldn't take 4-5 weeks into the season before they start playing decent.
It's a little hard to celebrate. Firing your head coach means that you suck so badly that drastic measures are required. So, although I'm OK with them making moves (need more), it's not like it's "oh happy day".
I long for the respectable NFL of old, with the Rooneys, the Maras, and Mr. Jack Kent Cooke (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...oke/marl93.htm)
