Sometimes the last day of football club league play can be sublime ... today's Premier League games are an example. MC and Liverpool are scoring late goals and emotions are swinging to extremes for fans of both sides.

And it's over. MC are repeat champions, even though for most of the game today they were just one goal away from disaster. They were down 2-0 with 15 minutes left in regulation, with Liverpool needing just that one goal to overtake, but in a stunning comeback MC scored 3 goals in 5 minutes to take the lead. Liverpool scored in the meantime, and MC would still have lost the championship if they ceded one more goal to Aston-Villa ... but they held on. Extraordinary finish, approaching but not quite reaching the drama of the 2 goals in stoppage time performance of their first title ten years ago (wrenching it away from MU).

    Fantastic Decision Day!

Glad that the season went down to the wire this year. Good day of football expect that Spurs won. At least Arsenal salvaged a respectable season.

Respectable…and back to Europe. But disappointing nevertheless. Too many matches where we just didn’t show up…too much inconsistency. We should have been in the CL, but better than last year.

My jury is still out on Arteta. We keep Auba and the scoring issues are minimized. And other head scratchers.

    2022-2023 Season Kickoff

    Premier League started today.

Every few years I get to say this: Arsenal to the top of the table!
(Yes, it was the first and only game but it’s still true )

First football come home and then the Gunners on top. Lookout Qatar.

We’re you pulling for Aston Villa to stay up last year, or hoping they’d be relegated?

If Birmingham were Duke, Villa would be Carolina. What do you think?

The Second City derby[1] or Birmingham derby, is the local derby between the two major clubs in the city of BirminghamAston Villa and Birmingham City, first contested in 1879. Villa play at Villa Park while Birmingham play at St Andrew's, the two grounds separated by roughly 2.4 miles (3.9 km). It is known as the Second City Derby based on Birmingham being referred to as the second city of the United Kingdom. The two clubs are generally regarded as each other's most fierce rivals.

I was born a couple of miles from St. Andrews.

Wait, you were born at Villa Park?

(I will await my sentence, now...)

Thanks, I assumed that to be the case. Good luck on the season!

Good articles in today’s NY Times on major EPL stories this year and on the sides that bounce from EPL and Championship League - the difficulties they have RE sustainability.

The officiating in the PL continues to suck. Craig Pawson blowing an obvious end-line out-of-bounds call is directly responsible for Ben Godfrey missing half a season with a broken fibula.

Too early to harbor hopes for yet another season of mediocrity for MU?

I really thought they would do better. I almost had Rashford in my fantasy team too. Texting with some of my United fan friends today that I really think they were better with Ole. It’s amazing that they have not improved but perhaps it’s early days?
Ten Hag had that ‘dear in the headlights’ look. He looked lost.
