We need a schematic of who has what power. There's a university with a president, but then some larger, state-wide university board of regents (w/ responsibility for more than just the one university)? Does the UMD have its own board, too? I don't necessarily have an issue with a board usurping authority of one administrator -- the board's job is to set overall direction and be in ultimate control. But this seems like layers upon layers (though I'm not sure of that). No matter what decisions are made and who ultimately makes them, so long as some couches are burned and some sort of inferiority complex is given voice to, we'll know that Maryland is still Maryland.
