No need to embarrass them further -- just remind everyone of the facts.
Hot day in May -- lengthy workout.
A player, Jordan McNair, is in trouble and collapses.
It is not noticed immediately by the football staff.
There is nothing available anywhere near the field that could treat a 300-pount player (or a 110-pound ballboy) for heat stroke. Like ice, for example.
The ambulance does not arrive for 45 minutes (IIRC). The player does not reach the hospital for another half-hour.
Jordan dies 12 days later.
After an investigation, the head coach D.J. Durkin is suspended (and the head of conditioning is fired). President Loh is on a path to fire Durkin.
The Board of Regents, which has no control over staffing, issues a public recommendation to retain him. Loh complies and then announces his own resignation.
All hell breaks loose in the university community, with the Governor of Maryland, and among the general public. The decision is reversed. The chair of the Regents resigns. Loh rescinds his resignation.
