    2019 Masters Tournament

I just realized as I wrote a different post that we are past due for this thread, so I'll start.

mr. synellinden, are you running the game this year? Please?

Weather has lined up for a near perfect azalea bloom this year. It’s been several seasons since that happened.

This is also the inaugural Women’s Amatuer event. Play starts today at a very nice local course (Champion’s Retreat). Second round there tomorrow as well, then practice at the National Friday and the final round at the National Saturday. I’m sure it’s televised somewhere.

Champion’s Retreat, btw, has 27 holes — nine designed by Nicklaus, nine by Palmer, and nine by Gary Player. Not sure which sets of nine are being used.

Audio files of chirping cardinals ready to go, green paint deployed, we're all set. Notecard Nantz can tell us where everyone's uncle played high school polo. Warm up the mute button!

If there is to be a picking contest or game, can it please have its own thread so that the "2019 Masters" tread is, in fact, about the Golf Tournament and its contestants rather than an extraneous wagering pool?

I just checked the current odds and here's how it stands:

    Rory McIlroy 8/1
    Dustin Johnson 10/1
    Tiger Woods 12/1
    Brooks Koepka 14/1
    Justin Rose 14/1
    Bryson DeChambeau 16/1
    Justin Thomas 16/1
    Rickie Fowler 16/1
    Jon Rahm 18/1
    Francesco Molinari 20/1
    Jordan Spieth 20/1
    Tommy Fleetwood 25/1
    Jason Day 30/1
    Paul Casey 30/1
    Phil Mickelson 30/1
    Tony Finau 30/1
    Bubba Watson 35/1
    Xander Schauffele 35/1
    Adam Scott 40/1
    Cameron Smith 40/1
    Hideki Matsuyama 40/1
    Louis Oosthuizen 40/1
    Matt Kuchar 40/1
    Patrick Reed 40/1
    Sergio Garcia 45/1

Spieth at 20/1 and Day at 30/1 seem like good odds to me. As usual Tiger is way too high. Yes he's playing better but putting him at 12/1 is a joke until he actually proves something.

I second Indoor66's motion. Two threads passes the common sense test and is easy to accomplish.

This thread will be for discussing the 2019 Masters tournament. I've started a new thread for golf contest discussions.

Yeah, the last 2 have been Georgia peaches, haven't they?

As an Augusta resident, I would be offended if I liked the guys who won.

I'm confused. In which thread do we discuss stiff-arming, shoulder-lowering and jersey-grabbing as part of the process for playing in The Masters?

And, to keep *somewhat* on-topic, our many azaleas have a few buds and early colors but they won't be gorgeous until next week most likely.
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

Azaleas are in mid-bloom today. Should really be magnificent.

Dev, did you make it out to the course back in the day? It’s changed in many ways — but the tradition remains. Truly unique place, the only major that is always on the same course. And at the same time of the year.

(I went out there for decades, now I use the time to get out of town. So if you need a cheap place to stay, my house is open — just feed the iguana at regular intervals)

And then there is Kane. He too walks the earth.

I had the same thought on Day at 30/1. I also like Xander Schauffele... Kid has been playing some good golf this year. I'd certainly take a flier on him.

Didn't he actually walk above the earth, leaving no footprints?

As I recall, that was a relatively thoughtful show, albeit predictable and preachy. I wonder how such a slow moving show would be received today?

Which brings me nicely full circle to golf and 6 1/2 hour rounds ...

I saw the par 3 tourney one year and my wife used a final round ticket one year when I was moonlighting out of town. Mrs. dd never played golf but she was smitten by the amazing beauty of the course. Phenomenal layout/design. Even decades ago, we heard/knew of folks who used Masters week to get OOT to avoid the traffic/crowds.

I have such mixed feelings about The Masters. The golf is generally great. The course is amazing and beautiful. All that stuff. But the tournament has also been the site of so much awful over the years that I feel guilty watching (but do anyway) and too guilty to go (at least so far). Am I the only one?
