    Choose Northeastern.

Roy Williams seems to have a mental thing when facing Kansas

So not only does Roy get one of the easiest 5 seeds and one of the easiest 4 seeds (Kansas without Azubuike and LeGerald Vick), he now gets the benefit of PJ Washington of Kentucky in a walking boot:

I will have to rethink my pick of Ky making the final four.

    I don’t think he gives a $h!t about Kansas.
“Those two kids, they’re champions,” Krzyzewski said of his senior leaders. “They’re trying to teach the other kids how to become that, and it’s a long road to become that.”

Auburn is arguably the toughest of the 5 seeds. Agree with you on Kansas though. But I would expect Auburn to beat Kansas.

I think Auburn has a good chance of beating UNC. Auburn shoots a TON of 3s and UNC's weakness is that they don't guard the 3pt line. Auburn's weakness on offense is that they're small and get shots blocked. UNC doesn't block shots on defense.

Auburn also forces a ton of turnovers and blocks on defense. UNC gets a lot of shots blocked and at one point they turned it over a lot.

The one BIG area where UNC has an advantage is offensive rebounding (when UNC has the ball). Auburn is very bad at rebounding on defense.

Everything I’ve read says that the boot is “precautionary.” I would take that to mean he’ll be able to play.

I'd agree. There have been plenty of reports/photos of Duke players wearing boots for precautionary reasons and those sightings often generate a lot of angst, rightly or wrongly. I read about Das UK (non-Brexit related ) Boot as precautionary, too, and nothing about him being out for any games.

    I think I like Abilene Christian's Coach

ESPN has a cute story today about how Abilene Christian's head coach will be coaching with torn pants because he owns only one suit. They have some funny quotes from him about the situation.

"We've got one suit place in town, that's it. And they couldn't get it done," Golding said. "I guess you've got to alter and do some stuff."

Golding started the season with two suits, but he left one in an airport en route to play Nicholls in February.

    "True story," he said.

"I haven't got my bonus yet, either," Golding said, explaining why he couldn't buy a new one. "I just found out I don't get that until June 1, I think. I heard somebody was going to start a GoFundMe page; I would appreciate it, any help I can get."

Cal says he expects Washington to play in first round.

Calipari said Washington sprained his foot against in an SEC semifinal loss against Tennessee and has been in a walking boot since Sunday.

Calipari said X-rays and an MRI were negative, but that Washington was sent to a specialist to make sure he wouldn't do further damage to his foot if he plays.
It doesn't sound like they've heard back from that specialist yet, though, but that's not really clear from the article.

Washington out for first game. Possibly longer. Too late for bracket adjustments. Regardless, here's hoping for an early UK exit from the tournament and a speedy recovery to Washington.

Gotta check out the other threads out here, Jetpack. DBR was on this with 90 minutes to spare to update your brackets.

Whoops. Looking back now, I see the news broke at 6:33 a.m. where I am (I didn't realize that when I posted) according to the timestamp on the story I saw. I never had a chance to update my bracket because games had started before I finished getting ready for work, and I didn't see the news until I got into the office. Somehow I did not see the thread on the main page despite looking for it.

I'd blame it on not having my coffee yet this morning, but I don't drink coffee. In any event, I'm still hoping for an early UK exit, just like every other year.

    Auburn in a dog fight!

Looks like they will pull it out though. 1 point lead with 6 sec left.

Edit: Not so fast. Just fouled a 3 point shooter with 1.1 sec left.

    OMG - OMG - OMG!

He passed up the open layup for the tie in order to pass to the 3-point shooter who gets fouled!

Why did he pass up the tie at the buzzer?????

ETA : he misses first and 3rd FT, and now NM State gets the ball out-of-bounds as the rebound goes off of Auburn.

Both these teams made such terrible mistakes down the stretch. Passing up a game tying layup? Fouling a 3 point shooter at the buzzer?

If NMSU doesn’t make a basket here, we will question that pass for eternity.

What a finish to that game. Auburn with the complete defensive breakdown on the in-bound pass, and the NM State shooter airballs it.

Totally agree. Unbelievable he passed up that layup to tie. Auburn is very lucky, especially after fouling the 3 point shooter.
