Hmmm. Not sure I would put him in the REALLY athletic bin. A few others agree

Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman listed Guy as the No. 73 overall prospect in the projected 2019 class on his most recent big board in mid-March:

"Though Guy lacks the size and athleticism of a typical NBA off-guard, his shooting could be worth gambling on with a second-round pick. Making 46.3 percent of his threes and 43.8 percent of his pull-ups, his shooting percentages also rank in the 96th percentile on spot-ups and the 84th percentile off screens. Guy could be a shot-making specialist, though it's difficult to picture him defending NBA 2s."

I don't see him as a point guard or defending wings- but Seth may be a good comp- although he worked hard on his handle and driving. Guy can really shoot and that may be enough- but the NBA is a different game. Not many like him.

I don’t know, he seems to dunk pretty easily for a 6’2”/6’3” guy. And he is super quick and shifty. I don’t think athleticism is going to be the problem for him. I think height/length will be the problem, unless he shows he can handle the ball full-time. Which I suspect he will. I think he is plenty athletic to guard guys in the NBA; the question is is he big enough. At 6’2”/6’3” and 160lbs, he is going to need to be clever at avoiding switches on to bigger wings/bigs.

The NBA has been a bit slow, but we finally have a released official list:
    https://www.nba.com/article/2019/04/...ficial-release

Even with the new rules, the 175 is actually down from last year. There are a few more internationals than last year.

    Interesting site

Not sure if this has been posted before but I came upon this site that asks the question- How many high school stars make it in the NBA?

A number of Duke guys in the database- it has several interactive plots. One can quibble with who goes in what bin and what the bins mean- but the data is interesting.

    Jordan Poole officially staying in

Didn't get a chance to post this yesterday, but Jordan Poole is officially staying in the draft.

This has been expected amongst the Michigan fan base for weeks now despite the fact that Poole is, at best, a late second rounder, and more likely to go undrafted. From all accounts this is a situation of an adult in Jordan's life (seemingly his father) having a higher opinion of his NBA prospectus than all the experts and pushing that strongly. As a Michigan fan this one hurts because Poole showed flashes of so much promise, and could've blossomed as the focal point of the offense next year. By all accounts he's a great, confident kid though, so I hope he finds his footing in the G League.

There was an interesting subplot to this story that people might find interesting: a couple of days ago, Poole apparently joined Cameo.com, a website where you pay to get a personalized "shout-out" from a celebrity. So obviously that's a massive NCAA violation... so again, the writing was on the wall well before the official announcement came. Super bizarre on a number of reasons (for one: if Poole was so confident in his NBA success, why would he feel the need to start working for relative pennies on this weird site?), but again, by all accounts Poole is a great kid so I'm hoping he figures it all out soon.

Fascinating but some of their groupings make me wonder about anything being overly legitimate. They have Josh McRoberts and Desagana Diop under great nba career???? They also list Rishard Lewis as superstar but have Irving simply as great???? They have Bradley Beal and Derrick Rose as mediocre???? Would be interesting to see someone with a little better grasp of nba performance take a shot at this. It would also be nice to have a little easier to use interface but that may be more an issue of me looking at it on a small laptop.

The categories are based on VORP and wins added, using the mean ranking over a player's top five seasons. That's why Rose is mediocre: his career was essentially sabotaged by early injuries, so he doesn't have a great 5-year average.

Did he join as a celebrity or to get a shout out from a celebrity?

As a celebrity... charging 20-40 bucks a pop to get a "personalized message" from him.

It sounds ridiculous, but Jordan Poole will make a significant amount of revenue off those people who thought they were getting a personalized shout-out from Jordan Peele.

Well if Seth can stick- Guy has a shot. Seth changed his game and has become a clever ball handler. Guy never impressed me with his shot creation but UVA plays a style that values passing and running down the clock- so it may be there. But he can shoot at an elite level and you need at least one elite skill set. We shall see.

Yeah, UVa's style of play leads to great results on college basketball courts but it can be hard to see how their players will translate in the nba. It seems like most of their players that get drafted turn into solid roll players which makes sense because at UVa they are all used to playing a role and know how to play team basketball. Their willingness to play defense is also a plus. I'm guessing that Guy can carve out a solid role in the nba. It might take a few years like it did Seth but he'll get there.

cameo.com There was a rabbit hole. Do you know you can get a personal message from Rashad McCants for only $100?

Yeah - I don't expect Guy to get on an NBA roster right away, but think he'll get there eventually. As to our (UVA) turning out more role players, I think that's more a function of our recruiting than our system or development. Bennett will usually chose guys with elite BB IQ over elite athleticism, and we usually don't get both as those kinds of guys are usually top 10 overall players looking to be one-and-done. Those kinds of guys, though we would love to have some of them I'm sure just aren't great fits for UVA because Bennett's priority just isn't ever going to be "showcasing" a player's skills to maximize their draft status. I think he emphasizes "sticking" in the league over maximizing draft status.

The media has done a better job of covering this in recent years, but here is the official list of college players who withdrew:

Not as familiar with Louisville roster; but with Enoch and Nwora withdrawing from draft doesn’t that put them near/at top of projected ACC standings.

Yes. Also nationally they will start the season as a top 10 team.

It seems reasonably likely that this will be the first year greater than 70% of draft spots were filled by underclassmen, and a near certainty that it will be the first year that more than 50% of early entrants go undrafted.

Is there a good way to put an excel table into a post without a bunch of manual manipulation?
