    Still got a chance!

    No-Hitter

Three Duke pitchers combined to no hit Penn State:

    http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.db...DB_OEM_ID=4200

Graeme Stinson, Matt Dockman and Jack Carey struck out 11 batters while walking two.

“Graeme (Stinson) was really efficient early and did a great job of pitching to contact,” said head coach Chris Pollard. “Matt Dockman came in and did exactly what you want a guy to do with a five-run lead, which is pitch to contact and he had a 13-pitch inning. I thought Jack Carey was tremendous. He threw three pitches for strikes and really pounded the strikezone. He attacked the zone when he had to. I’m really proud of his outing.”

USA Baseball is headquartered in CARY, and have an excellent facility and ballpark. They host a few “tournaments” (typically, four teams playing three games each, one against each other team.)

Many northern teams come down to play in our wonderful, warm, dry weather.

It beats the weather in Happy Valley right now.

Penn State was slightly worse than Northwestern in the Big 10 and equivalent in RPI last year. I am sure Goal #1 is to return to the NCAAs, which means we really need to win all 3 of these.

Good start. Their leadoff hitter's last name is Homer is he just hit one. Losing this series would be very bad.

PSU also has guys named Bowersox, Hendershot and Hippenhammer. Quite the roster of last names.

I prefer those names to if they had Trout, Betts and deGrom!

Taylor, not a big guy, hit his second HR, a 2-run shot in the 8th as Duke has pulled away with a 9-2 lead going into the bottom of the 8th (Penn State shows as the home team for some reason).

Thank goodness. Things were looking dire, down 2-0 in the 7th after losing yesterday. Nice rally.

    That's a winner.

Duke improves to 9-2 on the season with a 9-2 victory to take the series from Penn State.

Next up is a two game series with Penn on Tuesday and Wednesday at DBAP. Hopefully, we will have streaming video.

Just fyi, Northwestern also won one out of three against ranked Georgia Tech (don't know if they are still ranked) this weekend.

Speaking of RPI, Duke is third in the latest numbers. (As of March 3rd.)
    Northwestern is 17th.

Duke remains ranked 22nd in the Baseball America poll.

It seems to me that there's almost a bigger premium on winning these weekend series than on total WL record sometimes...to hear the coaches talk. They always stress 2 out of 3 on the weekend series.
