I don't believe anything that comes out of Vitale's mouth.
Heard on the broadcast of the Duke-Boston College game that Michael Savarino, a 6'0" PG from Durham Academy (NC) will be a preferred walk-on at Duke next year. Savarino is the grandson of Duke Head Coach Michael Krzyzewski.

Whatever the hell "it" is, Jabari found it.

Charlotte Observer's second article with a headline some variation of Coach K's Grandson is a Baller.
I've also seen elsewhere that he is ranked 1st in his class.
Congrats to the young man, Coach K, and Duke.
Awesome! That could keep K around a few more years!

OAD preferred walk-on?
What a cool opportunity for both Michael and Coach. Hopefully they have many championship moments to celebrate together!
jk, I'll take the 4-5 years and just hold out hope that he has a few other grandchildren on their way

The announcers last night said that he was being redshirted.
Besides the "fact" that Duke does not announce redshirts, this struck me as odd simply for the logic of it. As in, is there any? Why would Duke redshirt a guy who will never be in the game for anything more than garbage minutes?
Q "Why do you like Duke, you didn't even go there." A "Because my art school didn't have a basketball team."
Dakich said last night (he was speculating) that the redshirt was because they probably thought Savarino could play, and wanted him to be a "grad transfer." Meaning, I think, that he'd transfer this year and still have four years of eligibility left somewhere else so that he could play his final year as a grad student rather than burning a year of eligibility with walk-on minutes this year. Dakich said they did the same thing with his son, who ended up playing at OSU for his final year.
