    Bob Feller (3)
    Larry Corcoran (3)
    Cy Young (3)

The move out of Detroit has been very beneficial to his career. His numbers are about the best they have ever been. He may be the last pitcher we see for some time with a good shot at 300 wins. It may take a couple votes, but he is having a HoF career.

And we got nuthin' in that trade. One of the no names has been released. Oh such a sorry sad tale...

Kershaw would be a good candidate IF he can stay healthy.

Detroit's house cleaning has been disastrous, few good prospects for a lot of valuable assets...the march to 119 losses continues...

He would need to pitch another 10 years. Given his past back issues, I don't see him lasting that long.

'Stros had top 3 starter ERAs in the American League as of this morning. And that doesn't even include Greinke who would be third, giving them top 4. Granted that most of that was in the NL and he's had a couple of rough outings with Astros, but they are still 4 of top 10 in all of MLB. And if you don't believe in those antiquated stats, they have 3 of top 4 in ERA+ in the AL, and with Greinke, 4 of top 5. Four of top 10 in MLB in ERA+ as well.

These super staffs have generally not come through (recent Philly and Detroit teams come to mind), but that's insane dominance.

As an NL fan (well, a fan of an NL team), I have no problem with the comment. The NL doesn't have a DH, so of course ERAs should be lower in the NL than in the AL as pitchers are facing only about 90-95% of the batters that an AL pitcher would face.

Yeah. That was my point. Not a slight at NL hitters.

Wade Miley added about a whole run to his ERA last night. ‘Stros still won, though.

Ryu has fallen off a cliff for the Dodgers. As of August 16, he had a 1:45 ERA and had only had one game -- at Colorado -- all year in which he had given up more than 2 ER. Since then, he's been hit hard 4 straight times. Jansen has been struggling, and Kershaw has lost 2 straight, after 6 straight wins before that. Will Smith also has come back to earth. I'm a Dodgers fan, but would probably bet on the Braves to make the World Series, unless Ryu comes out of his funk.

    Indeed.

You can stick a fork in the race for the NL East. For the past month, the Nats have been winning at a crazy pace but could not gain any ground because the Braves kept winning as well. The Nats big hope was that they had 7 games in 10 days against the Braves in early September. It started with a 4 game series this weekend in Atlanta. Win a couple and the baby Braves might start to get flustered and falter.

Nope. Atlanta has taken the first 2 games of the series and now has a 9 game lead on the Nats. Sure, there are scenarios where the Braves fall into a tailspin but it seems pretty unlikely that a team that has won 70%+ of their games for the past 2 months suddenly can't win more than 2 out of 10.

The Braves are on an absolute tear right now. Having won 9 in a row and 17 out of their last 19 they are now just 2 1/2 games behind the Dodgers for best record in the NL. It will still be hard to pass them but this would be huge as LA had been almost unbeatable at home but just average on the road. Taking home field advantage from them was almost unthinkable just a few weeks ago but all of a sudden we've got a race.

While some teams fight for their playoff lives, and others for playoff seeding, the Orioles just keep on being the Orioles.

    40 / 40 watch

Acuna had a HR and two stolen bases last night which brings his season totals to 39 homers and 36 steals. The Braves have 14 games left so getting to 40 home runs is pretty much a given. He would need to average a SB every 3.5 games to finish at an even 40 steals. It's going to be close!

I think he is going for it and is looking to steal pretty much every time he gets a single. I think he will get there. He's already the youngest player in history to go 35-35.

As I talked about earlier in this thread, the Braves got an absolute steal when they signed Acuna to that 10-year, $100 mil contract. The GM of the Washington Nationals recently was asked about his young star, Juan Soto, signing a long term deal. Soto and Acuna are pretty darn similar players -- just a few months apart in age, they both were rookies last year, they each have put up impressive power stats thus far. So, this is what the Nats GM said about what he would pay Soto.

“We would give him 10 years, $180M tomorrow morning for sure,” Rizzo told the Junkies, “but I don’t think he’s going to accept that.”

ESPN recognizes A's as a feelgood, underdog story.

    https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...winner-tanking.

They beat KC tonight, 2-1, have won 91 games and are 1-1/2 games up on the first wildcard slot.

Keep watching this space and remind yourself that Olson missed the first month of the season.

Cardinals with a three game lead on the Cubs and Brewers with 10 games remaining. This weekend's four game series, on the road against the Cubs, is critical. Brewers play three against the Pirates.
