They obviously weren't prepared for this, but I suspect the Capital Police would have been incapable of managing this on their own with any preparation. Will be interesting to see what other agencies are able to provide support.

I would assume they're doing everything they can to de-escalate and they have plenty of force if need to use it.

Disagree on plenty of force. Riots/protests frequently go on for days because there truly isn’t sufficient force to stop riots/protests without killing people.

Trump used the word "peaceful" during his speech earlier as a CYA for himself - he is incredibly talented at using language such that he can claim that he is not at fault for anything.

I'm sure those protesting are all "very fine people." And of course this is not nearly as bad as the protests this summer. I will go no further.

My wife crossed 5th Avenue this morning on her way to a doctor's appointment, not too far from Trump Tower. Safely knowing that he was in DC.

I just turned on my TV to see what is happening and they are doing a test of the emergency alert system for New York City. Very odd timing.
