I agree and I'm sorry that I began a war by asking if maybe the Democrats want someone else to run against Trump. I also agree with Stray that all Republicans don't dismiss the accusations leveled at Trump. Just like all Democrats don't dismiss the fact that Bill Clinton ran from the draft. I have voted for Democrats and I've voted for Republicans since JFK and I'll continue to vote for the party that has the platform that best reflects my values. That's the way I was brought up.

    God bless the USA!

By the way, the first I heard of the Biden accusations were on this site.

Sorry or getting us off track and sorry for painting with too broad a brush. Several of ya'll are 100% right that it is possible to disapprove of some of Trump's behavior and yet still prefer him to a candidate on the other side. I should have been more nuanced in my take on Biden and how the sexual assault allegation might play out... heck, I probably should have just left the opinion of Republicans out of it altogether as it is not really germane to Biden's support among the left.

    Thanks for straightening me out.

The accuser who now recalls that she was raped by Biden, rather than touched in an overly intimate way, said this, and much more, in December in just-now-deleted posts on Medium:

"I love Russia with all my heart ... President Putin scares the power elite in America because he is a compassionate, caring, visionary leader."

Bernie Sanders must love Dumb and Dumber because he's telling us there's a chance.

Best I can tell, he didn't elaborate on what the admittedly narrow path looks like, but I would say the current pandemic has at least created an environment of uncertainty given all the primary pushbacks and Trump's small bump and the economic catastrophe. Things look very different than they did a month ago when Jomentum was a thing.

Biden has said he doesn't feel the need to debate with Bernie anymore. I agree. Would it really affect anything at this point if he pulled a DJT and says "I'm not going to be in the next one"?
Bernie is done, and Biden is well within his rights to treat himself as the nominee. Move on and campaign against Trump, not against another Dem.

I don't see what Biden could gain in a debate. I don't see the DNC forcing his hand by announcing one without consulting him. I really doubt we get another debate.

Some new figures from a CBS/YouGove Poll on the current state of affairs, Trump's performance, and the like. This poll gets a 'B-' rating from 538 so not the best, not the worst.

Some positive figures in there for Trump (majority view his conferences as helpful), and some negative figures (most view admin performance subpar, healthy majority do not think political considerations such as whether a governor is appreciative should have any bearing on disbursement of supplies).

Most interesting nugget to me is how respondents believe April will go --- bad, about the same, better (more selections, just a summary). Big party divides here with Democrats much more pessimistic than Republicans.

Joe to Bernie..."you might not be out, but yer out."

Well, not in so many words, but according to Biden, he has told Sanders that VP vetting is under way.
Democratic presidential front-runner Joe Biden says he has informed his Democratic rival for the nomination, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, that he is beginning the process of vetting potential vice presidential running mates.

"I am in the process and I've actually had this discussion with Bernie because he's a friend -- we're competitors, he's a friend," the former vice president told donors during a virtual fundraiser on Friday.

Keep an eye on what's happening in Florida. While most states are contending with overwhelmed unemployment systems, Florida is in a particular pickle. Even state Republicans are saying the changes made by Governor Scott (a big Trump backer) are at the heart of the growing debacle --- and rising ire w/ DeSantis.

The problem seems to be twofold: one, Florida has among the stingiest unemployment benefits in the country and Scott made them stingier and two, a redesign of the unemployment website is routinely crashing. The inadequacy, some are arguing, was a feature, not a bug.

Electorally, Trump has a lot to contend with between COVID and the economic collapse but any potential state flips are probably going to happen in battleground states hit worst by this mess.

We have gotten several national polls of Trump's handling of the crisis approval but I am eager to see some key state polls on that. You know New York is probably angry with the government response but Trump was never going to even be competitive in New York. I am much more interested in seeing what his Covid numbers will look like in key swing states... some of whom probably won't be that affected by the virus but several of which will be.

Florida, which is likely to see over 6000 Covid deaths, will be an interesting one. And Texas, which is also looking at something like 6000 deaths but which is much earlier on its progression than many other states (meaning there is a lot more variance that can happen) could also be worth watching. It does not look at this time like the virus will be too awful in Pennsylvania or Wisconsin, both are not even projected to run out of ICU beds during this crisis.

I would be tempted to take North Carolina off that list.

FWIW the last few polls (back in mid-February) have Biden slightly ahead of Trump: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com...orth-carolina/

I feel like Georgia might be a swing state too but the reality is that if Georgia and NC are swing states then Trump is probably in dire trouble. I mean, hard to see Georgia and NC being super competitive and Trump still winning Michigan and Pennsylvania. But, different regions and different demographics move in different ways so I guess it is possible. Polls seem to indicate NC is considerably more swingy than Georgia. NC is for sure a swing state, Georgia is probably mildly lean Trump. Like I would guess he is about 4-6 points ahead in GA at the moment. I would guess NC is a true toss-up right now.

The one that really will be a swing state this election is Texas. CNN had a late Feb poll that showed Biden up 1 and the Dallas Morning News had one at the same time that showed Trump +1. That is about as swingy as you get. No question in my mind that Texas should be on the swing state list.
