Chelsea Gray and Elizabeth Williams were named as additional players for the upcoming USA training camp during the national team break during club play in Europe. Neither are part of the official pool for this year's World Championship, but could play their way into later consideration by practicing well here.

With Marshall and Amile signed to two-way contracts, it looks like we will not have representation on the other USA team when they play their next set of qualifiers. Michael Gbinije could be back in the frame for Nigeria, Alex Murphy could play for Finland if he stays healthy, and Eric Boateng is expected to be available for Great Britain.

There are not expected to be any Duke ties for now, although Puerto Rico will want Sofia Roma, but school obligations might get in the way.

Elizabeth Williams was involved in the winning play in a scrimmage at USA training camp.

General Martin Dempsey was on hand to address the players to add another Duke tie.

It may seem weird that they are having this training camp right now, especially with coach Dawn Staley in the middle of a busy college season, but the reason most players are available is the break in European club play for EuroBasket Women 2019 qualifiers. I wrote about them here:

Tre, Cam, and Zion are all on the USA team for the upcoming Nike Hoop Summit:
    https://www.usab.com/news-events/new...it-roster.aspx

R.J. should be on the international team when that gets announced later.

USA Basketball will pursue the basic same strategy as last cycle, naming Bill Self as the U18 coach this summer:
    https://www.usab.com/news-events/new...8-coaches.aspx

He will be flanked by Danny Manning and Anthony Grant who have both been a part of the USA system for a while.

Chelsea Gray and Elizabeth Williams are among the six players added to the USA pool for this year's World Championship. The team's assistant coaches were also named.

Kyrie is among the players listed for the initial pool for the Olympics:

As I always say, shame on the United States for taking Devin Booker from Puerto Rico and Victor Oladipo from Nigeria.

In terms of games that are actually being played, the Asian U16 Boy's Championship was postponed last year so it is currently being contested as a U17 tournament in Foshan, China. The champions have not been decided, but the key games were Friday's Quarterfinals, which were all great games with the outcomes not decided until late. The hosts made it by beating Lebanon 80-71. New Zealand had to fend off Iran 73-69, but earned the advantage of the merger between Oceania and Asia, which resulted in combined four spots instead of three spots in Asia and New Zealand and Australia competing for one Oceania spot. Australia needed a dramatic comeback to beat South Korea 69-60. The Philippines used their inside advantage to escape Japan 72-70. They will join the other eleven qualified teams and hosts Argentina later this summer for the U17 World Championship.

No Jason Tatum or Brandon Ingram. Doesn't Coach K have any clout any more?

I am guessing Jayson and Brandon will be on the select team whenever that gets named. Jabari, Rodney, and Justise were also part of that last time and could feature again. Jahlil is probably out of luck on that front though. Presumably a few other players of ours will be considered for it too.

It is interesting that USA Basketball has been able to have so much continuity at the youth level on the Boys' side as Don Showalter is ready for another cycle:
    https://www.usab.com/news-events/new...7-coaches.aspx

While we are getting ready for this U17 cycle, teams are already getting ready for the future. Recently both COCABA U14 Championships were played in El Salvador to qualify a pair of teams to future Centrobasket competition. The five girls' teams played a round-robin with Costa Rica and the hosts taking the top two places followed by Guatemala, Panama, and Honduras. On the boys' side, there were playoffs, which were won by Panama and Costa Rica as Belize, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Honduras rounded out the standings.

Elizabeth Williams had 10 points in 17 minutes. The United States had a fast start as expected, but China actually tied it at 25 before a big run led to an 83-46 American win.

There are bound to be future Duke players among the guys trying out for the U17 team:
    https://www.usab.com/news-events/new...mp-roster.aspx

USA Basketball keeping roster longshots in hope that could help another country is one thing, but poaching Nico Mannion back from Italy is terrible.
