Independence Bowl: Duke 56, Temple 27

    A nice, generally warmer location!

    Let's Go Duke!

Looking at Sagarin, and Temple record and opponents, looks like it will be a good game and a tough matchup.

There's a $26 Greyhound bus trip available at 12:40 pm on 12/26 from Dallas to Shreveport: https://www.greyhound.com/en/ecommerce/schedule

Had forgotten this story -- in 1974, Terry Bradshaw's Steelers beat Joe Ferguson's Bills in a playoff game -- Ferguson had succeeded Bradshaw as QB at Shreveport's Woodlawn High.

Apparently the early line is Temple -6. Isn’t that our specialty—a road dog?

Temple is 8-4 with some good wins and close losses. They appear to be a tough team so we need to get some players healthy and prepare for a tough team.

Raw statistics without context can be misleading, and I haven't watched any film clips yet, but the Temple quarterbacks have thrown 19 TDs and 18 INTs. That jumps out at me...

    http://www.espn.com/college-football...stats/_/id/218

Starting quarterback Anthony Russo did not play in the season finale and was on the sidelines with a cast on his right hand. I did a Google search but couldn't find any updated information on his status.

Temple is better than I thought they were...and hoped they were. They had a shoot out at UCF and lost 52-40 although the game was a lot closer than that and Temple led a lot of that game. They also lost a 45-35 shootout with BC. They beat a good Cincy team.

Margin of victory/defeat ... opponent ( opponent rank in SRS) ... [ordered by best outcome to worst]

Duke is the 48th best team in the SRS (https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb...8-ratings.html

    +42 NCCU (FCS)
    +20 Army (#39)
    +14 @NU (#37)
    +14 @GT (#47)

    +08 @Miami (#29)
    +07 UNC (#95)

    -14 UVa (#44)
    -17 VT (#79)

Duke had no games with margins from -08 to +06 ... if we get in a tight one, will our kicking game come through?

Duke beat four teams that ended up ranked above it: Miami, NU, Army, GT.
Duke lost to two teams that ended up ranked below it: VT, WFU.

    -----------------------------------
    -02 Villanova (FCS)
    -07 Buffalo (#59)
    -10 @BC (#46)
    -12 @UCF (#8)

Temple beat one team that ended up above it: Cincy.
Temple lost to two teams that ended up below it: Villanova, Buffalo.

Looks like we have to try to stop #7 ... 4 straight 100-yard games at one point this season: https://owlsports.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=10762

Pop Warner coached at Temple. He also coached at Pitt, where one of his QBs was James DeHart, who coached at Duke.

This is about all I got for this one:

No reviews/knowledge of any of these joints.

I'll be no help with tatoo parlors and/or body-piercing establishments, either.

    Sorry, OPK.

As long as you can hit me with another battery of antibiotics, you’re okay in my book.

I gave up my license to practice in your undisclosed location when we moved here 32+ years ago. I'd suggest one of the local hospitals' physician referral networks. However, I am good for a beer and some BBQ next season.

Maybe a milk stout, it can double as ointment.

DaughterPk’s school is in the playoffs, gotta choose between our bowl or gambling on making the Natty game with her the next week. Oddly, I would miss more work doing our game than hers. I hate to miss our bowl game, but since we are going to whoop Alabama to start next season I figure I may should go root for them to end this season.

    Nothing easy in this world.
