End of 1st quarter, Duke leads 16 - 6. I can't watch (ESPN+), and no box score showing yet, but that is a more promising start than last week.

'When I got on the bus for my first road game at Duke, I saw that every player was carrying textbooks or laptops. I coached in the SEC for 25 years, and I had never seen that before, not even once.' - David Cutcliffe to Duke alumni in Washington, DC, June 2013

Looks like Rayah started in place of Jade. We need a primary ballhandler. Not named Haley.

Nice note aside from the game.
Maine honored former player Stacey Porrini Clingan before tipoff. She was "a key player for the Black Bears in the mid-1990s who died of cancer in March." Besides being a key player, she was also Coach P's first Maine recruit. The Black Bears' coach was also one of P's former players.

Haley had a ridiculous game, posting career highs in both steals and assists. If she can keep those kind of assist numbers, I can live with the 5 TOs. Against Northwestern, that ratio was a little different. I hope the trend is in this direction, but I'd still rather see someone else bringing the ball up court most of the time.
Jade gets minutes by default. Even against a fairly mediocre team, she isn't rebounding enough or contributing enough defensively. She had six total rebounds (3 offensive), which was tied for the team lead with Haley, no blocks, and 1 steal in 34 minutes. The team allowed something like 59% shooting from two for the game, which is just not getting it done. But who is there on the team that will do better in that role?
I think we are going to have a problem inside all year, and we need to either improve that part of our game dramatically or learn to play small (or both).
