Yes, I'm trolling for business as my office is only about a mile from the NC State Fairgrounds.

What about the deep fried meatballs?

More importantly, what is the beer selection?
The shrimp and grits eggroll is quite tasty. That capped off the old favorite of a ham biscuit at the Pittsboro Kiwanis stand, a hot dog from the Roast Grill (chili, onions, and mustard - yum!), and a funnel cake.
Thankfully, my better half and I split some of the items. We took advantage of the "business lunch" special, where you can give them $10 cash on the way in after 11:30 am on workdays. If you return the wristband and ticket before 1:30 pm, you get your $10 back. It was a beautiful day today to take advantage of the lunch special and take our grandson to his first state fair (he slept through most of it). Two hours seriously limits one's ability to consume insane amounts of calories.
The good news is that I promised my son that I'd run the next two races with him, one in November, the other in December. He'll race the 10K at the first, a half marathon at the second and I'll complete the 5K. Perhaps by the second race I'll have worked off the calories ingested today and will avoid having to see DevilDeac in a professional capacity. (I'd prefer to see DD in a social capacity!)
After Al's French fries and the free samples in the exhibit halls, I'm rarely hungry for much more. I do get the apple cider near the entrance and the muscadine slushy in the Kerr Scott Bldg and, of course, ice cream from the NC State students on the way out. Howling Cow is good stuff and I love how the students raise the cows, milk them, make the ice cream, and sell it around Raleigh.
There's a bunch of breweries represented but we go to the State Fair about once every 10 years so I didn't check. You're allowed to buy one 8 ounce beer/cider or 3 ounces of wine per person. No flights this year like last year when they introduced beer and wine sales at the fair.

I didn't list the shrimp and grits egg roll which actually sounded tasty and a reasonable item unlike most of the other strange stuff I posted. A decade or more ago, we met some friends there and he'd already had a ham biscuit (and a grilled ear of corn and a sausage sandwich) and another ham biscuit stored in his jacket pocket for snacking and walking. He couldn't finish his 4 (?) scoops of ice cream from the NCSU dairy stand/bar because he didn't want to be too full for, wait for it, yes indeed, another ham biscuit .

You have to have priorities...
You mean these delicacies?

They do look frighteningly similar:

Too soon? (Disclaimer: I've not yet seen the list of new foods at the NC State Fair for 2019-this is being tried in Norfolk, Richmond and Pittsburgh.)
