You may have missed the story that developed earlier when Luka Doncic stated that scoring in the NBA had fewer obstacles than scoring in Europe.

In Kyle's case, he was really, really rusty. NBA workouts alone can't keep you at game sharpness. His early games were very rough and then he settled in a bit and performed about as expected.

At the higher levels of Europe, the big reason is that there is less of a talent disparity between the best players and the end of rotation players in Europe. If the best player is not having a good game, coaches will not hesitate to bench him and play a guy who is. Teams generally play more players and games are only 40 minutes. There are leagues and teams lower down the scale that do have a star player or two who is expected to carry the load, but that's generally not where the bigger names end up first.

The translation is interesting. For instance, star players from Europe (even the Americans) often struggle in the NBA when moving in their prime, while some of the better older signings from overseas recently were guys who were role players in Europe. NBA role players or end of the bench guys going to Europe tend not to be that great immediately until they find a way to adjust.
