To be fair, we had a team best viewed in pitch darkness.

Lights were installed in 1984 which is 35 years or three and a half decades ago. I believe 3.5 meets the definition of a few.

    Exactly.

You can almost smell the elitist purebreds in their glass tower as they do the 'screwing in lightbulbs' wave to the serfs in the concrete stands. Alcohol is fine for them, but the townies can't be trusted to behave in a decorous manner.

I made myself laugh, but this is in essence the decision Duke has made. Go Duke!
Man, if your Mom made you wear that color when you were a baby, and you're still wearing it, it's time to grow up!

Help me remember - was the 1st game a win against State? Also, we’re the lights temporary for the 1st few games?

From a GoDuke story 12/18/2016, by John Roth:

At the first night game in Wade Stadium history, played on a Thursday night under portable lights for a national TV broadcast, Bennett and his teammates were down by 19 points in the third quarter. But Bennett was not going down to defeat on his Senior Night, and he completed an improbable comeback by connecting with Militello on fourth down from the 7-yard line with 26 seconds left. Militello made a spectacular catch, spinning from right to left while in the air, shielding his defender from the ball (final: 27-26).

And I was there. More help needed- did we receive a button at the game denoting it as the first night game at Wade?

    Indeed we did!

My button is probably lurking somewhere in the attic with various other Duke memorabilia, to include some football programs from the 60s.

(And I thought those portable stadium lights were rather interesting.)

I don’t know about “embarrassing”. Who exactly, in your estimation, should feel embarrassed that the stands are largely empty at many Duke football games?

I kind of think it's embarrassing...while the crowds at WW are often small, and are quite variable, it's not a great look on TV when the camera scans section after section of empty seats. Makes it seem worse than it is.
