If you had combined the Cranberries and the Zombies, you would have had one kick-butt band.

They would even have a self-referential song.

    Meta-cool.

I disagree. They have existed since 1914 () and are very American, well, at least East Coast American, but should be nationally distributed.

    https://everipedia.org/wiki/lang_en/Tastykake/

"Established in 1914 by Philip J. Baur and Herbert T. Morris and originally selling its product only in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, the company now distributes its products in several states on the East Coast, south to Florida, and has been gradually expanding across the United States."

A true dietary staple in that area for many youth and adults. In fact, I'm craving a package of these as I type:

I thought you were disparaging Tastykake. I had Tastykake chocolate kupkakes every school day in my lunch from 7th grade to graduation. Now, thank the Lord, they are available here in Florida.

Oops, sorry, I should have clarified/hit the "like" button as this is a dislike/like thread and see now how my comment could have been interpreted either way .

A new word to me: latinx.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latinx Latinx (/ləˈtiːnɛks, læ-/ lə-TEE-neks, la-) is a gender-neutral term sometimes used in lieu of Latino or Latina (referring to Latin American cultural or racial identity). The plural is Latinxs. The -x replaces the standard -o and -a endings in Italian, Sicilian, Sardinian, Spanish and related languages, which form nouns of the masculine and feminine genders, respectively.

I came across it here: https://republic.co/about Traditionally, female, black, and latinx founders have seen far less venture capital than their white male counterparts.

Came upon that site after learning about former Duke LB Mike Tauiliili Brown's startup via a goduke.com video: https://republic.co/win-win

I dislike "Dukie" ... maybe we can go with "Dukex" to refer to Duke cultural identity ...

You must not live in an area with many Latinx people. It's been around for years.

No, I do. I'm just oblivious. Given the wiki entry mentions a 2016 NBC report about the use of the word and interest spiking just last year in 2018, I don't think I'm too far behind.

I worked for a nonprofit that was very active in the Latin community about ten years ago, so perhaps I was ahead of the curve. It's a creative solution to a language and cultural issue, as I see it.

"Latinx" is a linguistic abomination in both languages. My wife is a native Spanish speaker and doesn't understand why Americans took a perfectly workable word and made it worse.

It's certainly awkward, especially in the plural form.

I also noticed some people on the Elizabeth King forum using UNX for UNC, which seems confused to me. I'm pretty sure the institution is within the state of North Carolina, I'm just not sure it's a university. So I think it should be XNC rather than UNX.

Or, you could use another word that I really enjoy: scoundrels.

While we're at it, I kind of like a lot of words that mean similar things. For example, hoodlum, ne'er-do-well, hooligan, and ruffian. These are all great words that don't get used enough, at least here in the USA.
