Phrase I like (obligatory "mods, please create a new thread if that's appropriate, as this is a phrase and not merely 'words' and b/c I know you like excess threads" nod) ... "cutting to the chase"

Portal. I don't know if I really like it or dislike it, it's just become in vogue.

Tripping William asked me to add a word to this thread for him. He couldn't do it himself because it is a word he tries to never utter...or even type.

The word is familiar to anyone who plays golf or has played golf for any length of time. It starts with an "s." It is five letters long. It rhymes with "dank."

Dang it, I can't type it, either!!!
"We are not provided with wisdom, we must discover it for ourselves, after a journey through the wilderness which no one else can take for us, an effort which no one can spare us, for our wisdom is the point of view from which we come at last to regard the world." --M. Proust

I hate that word, mainly because I had to do it to a guy in prison once.

I just learned a new word, and I like it: dysphemism (noun)

    Definition of dysphemism
: the substitution of a disagreeable, offensive, or disparaging expression for an agreeable or inoffensive one
also : an expression so substituted

Makes sense. It's the opposite of euphemism.

I like "loathe." Seems stronger than "hate" or "can't stand." More visceral.
