I cringe when I hear "I" used incorrectly for "me" -- and it's usually by folks who seem to be putting on airs or trying to impress.
Yes. I've heard the term "over-refinement" used to describe this phenomenon.

Lummox, it's a great word to describe players on teams who irritate my refined sensibilities.
Nothing incites bodily violence quicker than a Duke fan turning in your direction and saying 'scoreboard.'

Speaking of which, I frequently see people write "$50 dollars" - including the $ eliminates the need to write the word "dollars."

I'm guessing people get those $50 dollars from an ATM machine.

I really like alliteration, onomatopoeia and benevolent. Don’t get to use them very often though.

Nice choices. I think someone previously mentioned onomatopoeia in this thread. It is a great word. I don’t know if I like the word alliteration more, or it’s use. Benevolent is a nice one as well.

At least they don't have the HIV virus.

And in my hospital, there is the VAT team (in which VAT stands for vascular access team). They are the people that place PICC lines (PICC stands for peripherally-inserted central catheter). People will often say, "Call the VAT team and have then place a PICC line."
    Sheesh.

I work in finance and worked on a project briefly related to a different VAT which is the Value Added Tax. And many of my colleagues would similarly refer to it as the VAT Tax.
