Nobody should be surprised. Cal wanted Zion, Barrett, and Reddish. K got all and has clearly surpassed Cal as the premier recruiter in college basketball. Cal has always been a sore loser, and we kinda knew that if this coup happened Cal would lose it. And UK fell completely out of top 25 this week.

If this coaching thing doesn't work out for him, at least Cal's got his swampland in Florida to retire to...

    So

Who cares what the coach of the #33 ranked team (in Pomeroy) thinks?

Cal likes to be the king of his court. Just now, he's the jester. It's hard on him, y'all.

Cal ain't too bright highlighting the Duke approach ("We're preparing you for basketball and life beyond basketball.") and making it clear that he has some different approach.

I suspect the Duke coaching staff would be more than happy having Duke's attitude well and widely known among recruits and their parents.

    Keep yapping, Cal.

The Brotherhood is branding at its best that should sustain beyond Coach K. Imagine the likes of perennial Dukies- in-the-NBA all stars taking an interest and looking out for you beyond basketball. That's networking beyond even the best B schools.

These kids can be set for life and is brilliant if the players continue the tradition and pay it forward.

Coach K always talks about the five fingers. I’ve got one for Cal.

Coach Cal accuses Coach K of telling recruits that if they come to Duke that the university and the state will take care of them, which is--of course--ridiculous. If there were a Duke alum payout, my hunch is that it would be noteworthy. Instead, players (from both Kentucky and Duke) report that K underlines that there is more to life beyond basketball, and that--in addition to maximizing their likelihood of getting drafted, which is so obvious that it needn't be emphasized--that recruits will be able to use their Duke experience to develop themselves into men who can happily care for themselves and their loved ones, regardless of whether or not they hit the NBA lottery. Obviously, this message doesn't persuade everyone (and I have been quite impressed by many of the Kentucky recruits, who are often thoughtful and well spoken, and who would likely have done well at Duke--there are many ways to grow oneself into a man), but it's hard to really complain that it is unfair recruiting.

I don't know if K mentions it, but there are plenty of highly touted and hugely productive Duke players who never really made it in the NBA. Some from injury (Jay Williams, Hurley, Scheyer, perhaps Zoubs would fit in this category), and others who were great college players but who presumably didn't bank retirement money from playing basketball (Nolan Smith, Wojo, Nate, Collins, Bilas, etc etc etc) but who have had highly successful careers (in and out of basketball) partly because they actually got an education. It's almost embarrassing to recognize how many espn talking heads once wore a Duke uniform. It's not like a Duke alum is the Commissioner of the NBA, or the president of CBS Sports, or the president of the WNBA.

In Calipari’s defense, Kentucky is the state that he is working with so how much can he claim that the state can provide. 😃

It is too bad the Ball's just sacrificed their college eligibility as that family and Calipari would be perfect for each other.
