It's remarkable to me that he hasn't played yet he got a contract, but I guess the wolves are worried about having enough bodies, plus he's a good locker room presence and can talk from the bench very well. Hope he gets in this season and I really don't want the wolves' season to end tonight.

I very much agree with Natty on this one. I do not think a consensus #1 team can "overachieve" by being a 1-seed and losing in the S16.

On paper, that team was stacked: 2 All-Americans, NPOY, DPOY, top PG in the recruiting class, #2 recruit in the class, defensive specialist. I agree the team lacked depth, but this is Coach K we're talking about. Since when does he love depth?

Yes, it is semantics. Relative to preseason expectations, they certainly did not overachieve. Relative to what they actually were as a collection of players (not based on their hype), they overachieved.

To some degree, those preseason expectations were based on the 2005 team overachieving too. They had one more scorer in Ewing but even less depth with Randolph but no McRoberts or Paulus. I mean, Lee Melchioni was playing significant minutes at PF!

I think those two teams getting 1 seeds is one of Coach K’s best coaching jobs (along with the rebuilding year in 2000) of the last 20 years.

    How about Jeffersanity? Or Amile-zing?

Another Dukie earning an NBA paycheck... whew, the league is just full of us!

I don't necessarily disagree that those teams both ended up being very much more than the sum of their parts, but I also think you are letting time and post-college performance color your view of both teams somewhat. Lee was a solid college role player, the fact that he was putting in major minutes doesn't bother me a bit now and did not then.

We had one of the best scorers in NCAA history, and a one of the more dominant centers we have had in the past few decades (regardless of his lackluster pro career). The team was not exactly built to be a prototypical championship team, but overachieved seems revisionist at best.

Sorry but 99 against UCONN is the worse game in Duke history

That would probably be one of the most painful losses, but was not as hard to watch (it was a good game generally). The LSU game was less painful from an expectations standpoint I guess, but unbearable to watch (look at the shooting numbers posted earlier).

That may be true, but Penn in '50 was a real doozy.

People... the conversations starts and ends with 1986 Louisville. There need not be anything more said.

I feel like this game should be one of the most infamous in history and get more attention. If Duke won a Final Four game under those circumstances there would already be a 30 for 30 about it and on the yearly anniversary there would be candlelight vigils. I want to show this game to everyone who says Duke gets all the calls.

And that's why '04 UCONN hurts so much. Freshman at the time.

A healthy Giles along with Tatum would have been great.
