I think that's exactly what Bobby had to do to prove his worth and carve out a space. From '65 into '68, Bobby was not doing that. Jerry had no need for a traditional rhythm guitarist. Bobby had to become Bobby Weird. Fortunately, he was well suited for the role and created an extremely unique guitar style. Nobody has ever played rhythm guitar like Bobby. In Bobby's case, it may be better called second guitar.

that was a looooooong fun day...I remember crawling back to my room where I could hear Leslie West at about 100 decibels even though he was about a mile away...
