Agreed. Although Bobby plays really intricate stuff, not just chords. (I'm sure you're aware). And even the chord phrasing is interesting.

I think that's exactly what Bobby had to do to prove his worth and carve out a space. From '65 into '68, Bobby was not doing that. Jerry had no need for a traditional rhythm guitarist. Bobby had to become Bobby Weird. Fortunately, he was well suited for the role and created an extremely unique guitar style. Nobody has ever played rhythm guitar like Bobby. In Bobby's case, it may be better called second guitar.

Just finished the 4 hour documentary about the Grateful Dead on Amazon Video. I thought it was great, but happy Amazon has it divided into a series.

The music was awesome, with some of my favorite Dead songs. The video brought back great memories of my youth - I was never a DeadHead, in the true sense of the word, but saw them twice, once at Cameron, once in Charlotte.

Good recall, Joe College Weekend on April 24, 1971 included The Grateful Dead, Beach Boys, Mountain, Butterfield Blues Band, and NRPS (w/ Garcia).

The Grateful Dead first played at Cameron on December 8, 1973.

I completely understand! I might have seen Jerry Garcia play 200 times or 400 times. The best times are the only ones I'm certain about.

that was a looooooong fun day...I remember crawling back to my room where I could hear Leslie West at about 100 decibels even though he was about a mile away...
