Could be — I saw a few shows in Fall ‘84 but don’t remember him singing. I know it was a fairly new reintroduction.

IMO, the night Phil truly made the most of his returned mic was Hampton ‘86 with the return of “Box of Rain”! Those were three great shows. Hampton shows were always great.

I was at all three. Hope you were, too!

Yes, good times had by all!

Hampton was my favorite east coast venue. Red Rocks was my favorite US venue. I saw 16 of the 18 GD Hampton shows in the 80’s (missed the 2 in ‘85). I don’t know the numbers at any other coast venue.

I saw all the shows there in ‘85 through ‘88. Was in law school for the Warlocks in ‘89 so missed that.

    Great venue, always great shows.

Rather than muddy up the increasingly ill-named "Aerosmith vs Eagles" thread, I thought I would use this thread to ask if anyone had a particular live recording of the Dead that they would recommend. I understand that the Cornell show from 1977 is probably the most famous, but I am wondering what else folks would suggest that reflects the band at their best.

Ideally, I'd prefer something with high quality audio that is fairly easy to find. I am not necessarily looking for someone to suggest a mid 60s Warlocks show featuring a 90 minute digeridoo solo, of which the only known recording is an 8th generation copy originally recorded on a dictaphone. Though, on second thought, that may be worth seeking out also.

Widely available, very high quality, one of the best shows I attended was The Warlocks, Hampton Coliseum, October 9, 1989.

The quality varies, but this is a fun place to find individual shows.

Anyone here make it to the outdoor concert in Highgate Vermont in June of 1995? Jerry very much into his good and bad habits, died just a few months later.

It's mildly surprising that my parents wouldn't have gone to any of the Cameron shows, being that overall the Grateful Dead fit into their musical tastes, at least at the time. I do think it's ironic that one of my dad's favorite songs was "El Paso" by Marty Robbins, and it was played on our turntable lots when I was growing up. Had they gone to the first show in '73, Dad would have heard the Dead's rendition. That could have changed my childhood history!

    I don’t *think* so.

My guess has been that John wants to do something else, so they’ll find someone to fill that slot and keep on truckin’. I could be wrong though. Could be that Billy is at the end of his touring days too.
