    Folks,

It isn't that big a deal, but can we please try to keep posts about various free agent moves or trades confined to the NBA Summer thread and not mix them in with the Summer League discussion? Just for the sake of keeping conversations straight, it would be helpful.

    Thanks.
Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

Just read that the Lakers are going to hold Ingram out for the rest of Summer League, due to the leg cramp issue. Seems like they saw enough from him yesterday and are going to be overly conservative with him.

Sadly we wont get Ingram v Tatum tonight.

Watching the Celts/Lakers game and they showed all the coaches watching. Thibs was talking to Nolan Smith, which was noted by PJ as he announced. Nolan was wearing a Duke jersey...I'm guessing he's networking and trying to work his way up in the world?? I know this happens in a big way at the final four (all the assistants are there hob-knobbing), so makes sense that summer league could be a good venue for this as well, even for a very junior college asst like Nolan.

Sure, that should always be part of it for any young person trying to make it in a new career. But, they also just know each other from USA Basketball training camps in Las Vegas; among the Duke assistants, only Capel went overseas for the actual games, but all of them participated in the Vegas training camp, where Thibs, of course, was also present as a USA assistant.

Tatum is better than Fultz and Ball. Tatum is WAAAAAYYYYYYY better than Jaylen Brown.

    That is all.

Too early to tell. Fultz looks great so far as does Brown and as does Tatum.

I agree with you, and have been stating this for awhile. He is going to be the real deal.

Tatum does not look afraid out there and is demanding the ball in critical moments. Not sure who is better but Tatum is going to get minutes on a very good team. Fultz will start - most likely- on a promising team so he may have some more opportunities to improve faster.

All I know is that Ball has a strange looking shot. Must have learned that from Dad

Other than Brown's first game where he dominated the ball, his offense has been pretty poor. He had an aggressive series against LeBron that lead people to think he's going to be special. He was a controversial #3 pick in one of the worst drafts ever. His absolute ceiling is a less good Avery Bradley.

Thanks to everyone for posting all the summer league info...the one guy I've really been wondering about is Harry Giles. I've seen lots of Tatum highlights (impressive) and discussion about others. Any video of Giles out there? What's the word?

Never mind, sorry... I had missed post #57. That sucks. Doesn't sound like it's off to a good start.

Summer league is "Cautious" with a capital C. Brandon Ingram got a leg cramp; he exchanged looks with Magic Johnson, and he knew he wasn't playing in any more games this summer.

Yep, but was just more surprised that he's at the Vegas summer league versus being back home while the team is practicing. Seems a bit out of place that's he's there in general given he's a low level assistant at Duke (not even an official assistant), so the NBA seems a bit out of reach for him right now from a coaching perspective. Moreover, all the new guys arrived on campus recently and are starting their light summer workouts.

Not totally unusual to see him there, but a bit surprised.

Quinn Cook had 25/5/5 today vs Ryan Kelly (8pts) as the Pelicans lost to the Hawks in a tight one. Quinn was the leader on the floor and looked like he belonged. Frank was in street clothes for NO, presumably recovering from that surgery still?

Quinn has looked good so far and looks like a solid backup PG. Can someone remind of his contract situation? He looks like he should stick somewhere regardless, but can't remember if this year with NOP is guaranteed yet--IIRC it's not guaranteed at this point and he still has to get through training camp...

Cook is in the second year of a two-year deal from last April with the Pelicans. His salary for this year (~$1.3 million) is not guaranteed.

The first game of the day had even more storylines than we thought with two Duke players. Ryan had 8 points in 13 minutes and helped the Hawks get the win 84-82. He only played that few minutes because by rule, he needed to clear waivers with the Rockets before he could join another team, which did not happen until halftime. Quinn's 25 points for the Pelicans came in 31 minutes.

The Bucks beat the Nets 88-83 in a relatively uneventful game.

Amile had 6 points in 10 minutes as the Timberwolves beat the Nuggets 90-71.

The Clippers beat the Jazz 86-67 in a game with excessive Tarheels.

Jayson had 11 points and 7 rebounds in 28 minutes in a 70-64 Celtics win over the Trailblazers. Semi had 9 points in 28 minutes.

It seems silly to schedule these teams again after they played in Utah, but the day ended with the 7 fouls Davis Bertans and the Spurs beating 8 foul Brandon Austin and the Sixers 101-95.

    LOL at the bolded.

The quirks of the NBA rules during the offseason make situations like this amusing...

ETA: I love Quinn Cook. Just so that's clear.

a nice write-up partially focused on Quinn. It feels like a lot of the talk around QC this summer is similar to the type of talk we heard about Seth 2 summers ago. Hopefully it ends as well for QC as it did for Seth: https://www.thebirdwrites.com/2017/7...ks-jones-young
