I am specifically looking for feedback on this part of the discussion.

Again, apologies for getting this late. Just pretend it's still Sunday.

    It depends on who's asking.

    1. Less knowledgeable Duke fan: a half-hearted explanation will do. Speak in sentence fragments, abbreviate when possible, and look over at the person once or twice. We do a version of this on DBR Chat. Someone asks a question, and one or two of the many participants will take the time to type a one-line answer.

    2. Carolina fan (presumably less knowledgeable): limit your immediate answer to under 5 words, like "I'll explain later". Keep your eyes glued to the screen. There are times when being a good Duke ambassador will help Duke-UNC relations. This is not one of them.

    3. Less knowledgeable fan of college basketball: answer with some degree of care, because this is a good time to be a Duke ambassador. Complete sentences, eye contact, allow for follow-up questions.

    4. Less knowledgeable non-sports person: your call. If you think you can convert this person into a fan, take the time. If the person seems only casually interested and is unlikely to invest any future time, then do the bare minimum.

    5. An attractive, available person: immediately make the game your second priority. Answer any and all questions with enthusiasm, and feel free to ask a few. Notable exception: if you yourself are NOT available, be polite, answer with care, and find a way to mention your significant other.

One thing that I failed to mention on the podcast: I have some friends who always ask where I'm watching the Duke games or when I'm watching Detroit sports. Their reason? They don't want to watch the game with me. They "want to watch [me] watch the game." This annoys me the most because when I'm in my element with my people watching a big game, the last thing I need is for someone to be staring at me the whole time like I'm a panda at the zoo. And, I make it clear to them that if they're coming to my bar, taking up a spot that could be denied a Duke fan, they better be there to watch the game with me and not watching me naturally react to the game.

No apologies needed. We don't pay you enough to put you on deadline.

Personally, I get really frustrated and afraid that the interruptions and explanations interfere with the positive Mojo I am trying to send our guys way.

I frequently find myself biting my tongue to keep from screaming "Just watch the |÷“f{w|÷c!!/+** game!!!"

I need to watch games with Jason. He gets heated in the exact same way I do. I love it!

Yes, I agree. Whenever I yell at the TV (in an encouraging way!), my daughter says, "Mom, you know they can't hear you!"

Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?
