Gas and brake pedals are the same as here, correct?

Yes. Much less of an issue to mix up the turn signal and wipers than to mix up the gas and brakes.

In general, the turns required more attention than usual. We kept telling ourselves "wide right, sharp left". Also, turning right with an open lane to your right seemed unnatural. I kept wanting to look behind me when I turned right on a two lane road.
