    2016-17 D League Thread

I always hate starting this thread, but the regular season tips off on Friday.

Right now, Quinn is returning to Canton and Andre is returning to Canton.

Ryan was technically the first NBA call-up of the season because he was already under D League contract when the Hawks signed him.

Marshall was recently assigned for the first time, heading to Westchester for practice on Saturday and then quickly being recalled. The Knicks are one of the more progressive teams in utilizing their D League affiliate, so expect him to be assigned frequently when schedules align and when they do not need him for their active roster. He may be able to even repeat the special day that Cleanthony Early had last season of being one of the rare players to appear in a D League game and and NBA game in the same day.

Thanks for sharing this. Agree with the use of the Westchester D league team by the Knicks. Hopefully he won't share Cle's accomplishment of being shot in the knee. (Although somehow I don't think Marshall would be hanging around a strip club in the early morning hours.)

    Knicks at Atlanta, December 28th.

Marshall got the assign-and-recall treatment again on Monday and then got assigned again today. This one is actually expected to last more than a day as he will likely play in their exhibition game on Wednesday, which is the first battle with the Nets D League team. Since the D League version of the Nets are playing in Barclay Center until their home is finished, I wonder if any enterprising scalpers will be able to trick people into thinking that they are buying NBA tickets.

Marshall had 10 points and 10 rebounds in 36 minutes as the D League Knicks matched the NBA Knicks with a 107-103 exhibition win over the D League Nets. Carrick Felix had 13 points and 8 rebounds in 28 minutes in the loss.

Quinn starts his season at 7pm ET on Friday. It looks like the D League has switched broadcast platforms from YouTube to Facebook Live, so I think you will need to check there if you want to watch. I have no idea what this means for replays and highlights, which the league has done well in recent seasons.

Quinn led all scorers with 27 points and added 7 rebounds in 36 minutes, but Canton lost 134-111 to Grand Rapids. In the win, Michael Gbinije had 8 points in 32 minutes on assignment from the Pistons.

It looks like YouTube will still have some highlights:

As of right now, Marshall is still assigned to Westchester so I will operate under the assumption that he will play in their opener on Saturday at 7:00pm ET. Quinn also plays at that time and Andre starts his season at 8:30pm ET. Again, the games are on Facebook live. The links do pop up some time before the game so you can check the D League schedule for specific events if you want to watch.

Marshall did not end up playing. He and some other Knicks are still listed as being assigned and not recalled and none of them played so who knows what the story is there.

Quinn led all scorers with 29 points in 41 minutes, but Canton lost 120-118 to Long Island. Carrick Felix had 15 points in 27 minutes.

Marshall was recalled, but is listed as assigned as of right now. I have no idea if that means that he would play in their game on Wednesday at 7pm, but it would be cool if he could play in Greensboro.

Marshall had 13 points and 11 rebounds in 36 minutes in a 116-112 win. Rasheed Sulaimon had 27 points in 38 minutes.

Quinn plays on Friday at 7pm ET. Again, these games are on Facebook Live, which usually means that links are not available this far in advance. As with other seasons, the league website is running a weekly prospect watch poll voted on by people who follow the league. Quinn was 7th in the preseason poll and then moved up to 5th after his scoring exploits in the opening weekend:

Quinn had an off shooting night, but finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists in 46 minutes in a 127-121 double overtime loss.

If Marshall stays assigned, he will face Quinn on Sunday at 2pm ET.

Quinn had 31 points in 38 minutes in a 103-96 loss. Marshall was of course preoccupied with playing in another game earlier in the day and was not needed for double duty. I suspect that is more commonly the result of playing a D League game earlier in the day then suiting up for the NBA game later and not the other way around.

Quinn's numbers are at least as good, if not better, than Seth's when he was in the D-League. Seth hasn't played quite as well in Dallas this year as he played last year, but his numbers are respectable (although the Mavs are terrible). Quinn was a superior defender when compared to Seth, at least while at Duke. Seems that Quinn ought to be getting a call from some NBA teams at some point.
