NC State Fair Foods of Death: 2016 Edition

This year the list includes such delights as:

    Deer-fried Jello
    Deep-fried Reese'Os (Reese's PB cup between 2 Oreos)
    Deep-fried Cocktail Crab Claws :-o
    Deep-fried Klondike bars

    and

    wait for this one

Deep-fried hot chocolate (cocoa-dipped marshmallow dipped in cocoa-infused batter and chocolate sauce)

Luckily, my office is only about a mile away from the fairgrounds...

[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

I'm considering driving down from DC to catch the second weekend. I miss the state fair. Sometimes I try to imagine the hollow, melancholy lives of people who have never experienced deep fried Oreos or pig races. How do they bear it?

Apologies. I missed this item in my initial post:

C'mon down! Forecast looks great with highs ranging from 65-70 and lows from 50-60 and 10-20% chance of rain. A fabulous forecast like that usually means crowds of over 100K each day.

That one makes sense. Especially if formed in the shape of a cone, filled with three or four scoops of rich home-made vanilla and cookie dough ice cream.

Reminds me of one of my all-time favorites (to see - never tried it for fear of a heart attack) - the Philly Taco - a cheesesteak wrapped in a slice of pizza.

When there's a taco truck on every corner, I'm hoping they all have this on the menu.

This thread is useless without pictures.

So, here is the Man Sandwich. Looks pretty darn messy --

And here is the Salted Caramel Maple Bacon Funnel Cake --

And here is deep fried Jello. The description says, "When it's fried, the Jello-O blends into the batter, giving the gelatin a gooey consistency."
I'm not sure that sounds appealing --
Why are you wasting time here when you could be wasting it by listening to the latest episode of the DBR Podcast?

How is that different than a jelly doughnut?

Excellent point as that's how this morning's Raleigh News and Observer described it-a jelly doughnut.

I don't have a pic, but they also have a Deep Fried Cheeseburger this year. I love cheeseburgers but I get sick just thinking of that...

I've had a 3-4 scoop serving at the NC State Fair from these folks before:

    https://howlingcow.ncsu.edu/

    Outstanding ice cream.

These folks, who we know, are now providing some flavorful competition to the NCSU folks:

    http://www.tworoosters.com/

    Also outstanding ice cream.
