Untappd sent me my 'Year in Beer' yesterday.

    I had:
531 beers (Would not have been remotely possible without trips to Europe, North Carolina, and living within a mile of 4 breweries)
    202 different breweries

Sun King (48), Metazoa (23), The Tap (22), Bell's (13), Taxman (11) were my top 5 breweries. Surprised Rhinegeist didn't make the cut.

I had a beer in 7 different states + Puerto Rico and 8 different countries.

A good year! And I even remember it all. Mostly.

From last night's trip to Sun King:

The Flannel Fruitcake - Belgian Quad - 10.7% ABV - This is Sun King's 'The Flannel Mist' with fruit flavors added. I enjoyed it more than the original. An excellent Belgian with a little spice and fruit. Heaven.

Old Fashioned Extraction - Belgian Quad - 11.5% ABV - This is part of Sun King's 'King's Reserve' series. Bourbon barrel-aged quad. Some orange and cherry as a nod to an old fashioned. Definitely starts boozy up front. Grows on you as it goes. Finishes sweet.

Shadow Proof - Imperial Stout - 11.4% ABV - A bit surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. Pour is a dark dark brown. No head. Roasty, malt and dark chocolate flavors.

The last of my coffee porter trilogy started last week with this being another gem gifted by fuse during our last meet-up. Thanks!

Pour from a 16 ounce can was dark brown with a large, creamy mocha head. Enticing aromas of iced coffee. Mouthfeel of a coffee/chocolate shake. Almost. Tastes of dark roast coffee, milk chocolate, dark caramel syrup and some dark fruits. Brewed with molasses, too, and I guess I may have perceived some of that also. But, there's also the power of suggestion . IBUs listed on their web page at 38, about what I would expect. ABV on the can was 6.0% and on their web site was 6.7%, not really perceptible. Dessert alone or with some chocolate chip cookies.

I don't think I had a favorite of the three and would buy any of them again.
Well worth another taste/review. From Wednesday night:

    Hatchet Coffee Porter-Booneshine Brewing

Pint can from a trading session with fuse last month. Thanks!!

Really delicious and well-brewed without any significant changes in a year. I *might* have to pilfer one of these from our older daughter's fridge this weekend if they still have any. Dog/child-sitting fee, of course.

I'm not sure of the source for this one as I had two of these but will thank duketaylor and accfanfrom1970 as I'm certain dt got a bottle of this for me that our daughter picked up for me a couple years ago and accfanfrom 1970 brought one to Bull City Burgers and Brews in January (?) this year for me. Thanks to you both!!

This was a 750 ml corked and caged bottle shared last PM with our son. Poured into snifters at fridge temps (too cold), we sipped for about 45 minutes and it became more magnificent as it warmed. Almost ink-colored with a moderate, latte-like tan head. This imperial milk stout even smells outrageous with aromas of dark chocolate (not added), dark, dried fruits (not added), cinnamon, ginger and vanilla (all added) and bourbon. Almost syrupy mouthfeel that was also amazingly smooth. All the aromas match the flavors with some black strap molasses (not added), honey (added) and a drop of espresso (not added). The finish is warm and boozy. IBUs on the bottle are 55, same as the regular GBS. ABV is 10.6%, a bit higher than the 9.2% (IIRC) on the original GBS. Complex and decadent. Liquid dessert, indeed.

I'll thank you guys again next year as I'll save my second bottle until next Christmas most likely.
    From last PM:

Bourbon Barrel GBS (probably 2017 version)-Hardywood Park Craft Brewery

I'll credit duketaylor for the December bottle and accfanfrom1970 for last night's bottle which took about 2 hours to finish, not a wise move given the above stats .

Simply an amazing beer. Happy to have another 750 ml bottle in the 2018 GBS Complete Set. Maybe I can delay partaking of that one until Christmas .

An article from the Raleigh News and Observer this AM with some background:

    https://www.newsobserver.com/living/...225291785.html

“Thank you Hi-Wire Brewing at Golden Belt,” one commenter wrote. “The children running around out of control was getting a little crazy. Could you also do something about the abundance of birthday parties for 1-year-olds on the weekends? An adult brewery is not a Chuck E. Cheese.”

“My five-year-old is better behaved and far less annoying than a gaggle of drunk Duke kids,” wrote one. (must be a cheat fans)
