I am very fortunate to have shared this 5 beer sampler with our son (which included the 2 high octane DIPAs reviewed Saturday). Somewhat surprisingly (and thankfully), the coffee in this version didn't overwhelm the vanilla, which was quite prominent. Same stats. Beyond decadent. I liked this offering better, but not by much, and our son liked the One Line variant better, but they were both amazing. Now for that BBA version...
    Dang this sounds quite amazing!

Unfortunately, none of the 3 versions of Dire Wolf were bottled.

I'm almost embarrassed to post that I've never had this beer. It's their Belgian-style triple ale.

Appearance: slightly cloudy with a fizzy, foamy, lacy, lingering head
    Color: light golden-yellow
Nose: banana, orange juice, citrus peel, spicy
Tastes: coriander?, orange juice, orange pith, hints of black pepper, banana, light brown sugar
Hops: Hallertau, Saaz, Fuggles (they need one more to make it a Euro stretch 4 )
Grains: Pilsner, maybe pale and Two-row
    IBU: 18
    ABV: 9.3%

    Glassware: tulip or snifter
Food pairing: mussels (silly me), light seafood entrees, melons, berries

Very good for the style at about $12 for the 6er with my buck off Total Wine coupon last week. Several available for tasting/trading . Perhaps coming soon to a tailgate near you.

Cool article about Asheville's South Slope.

    https://www.craftbeer.com/craft-beer...e?src=83016_T2

The article mentions 7 breweries, but they forgot about Bhramari and Ben's.

Wicked Weed Myrtille American Wild Ale

Given the number of Ashevilleans (sp??) who frequent this thread, I was really surprised, when I searched, that no one has reviewed this beer yet. Part of Wicked Weed's Canvas Series, here is what Untapped had to say:

"Myrtille is a golden sour ale aged in neutral wine barrels. Two pounds per gallon of fresh, whole North Carolina grown blueberries contribute an earthy and tannic backbone to this uniquely southern sour. When the time is right, the barrels are blended to achieve the perfect balance of berry and house Brett culture."

It pours a brilliantly beautiful ruby-red color, with a medium-sized off-white/pinkish head. The blueberry notes shine through really well, but don't overpower things. I'm still a bit of a sour beer novice, but I thought this was nicely balanced. And at 6.0% ABV, it isn't high-gravity, but not flyweight either. I may just have to pick up a couple more bottles on my next trip to the local Whole Foods.

I'm not sure if I have had this one or not but I will be sure to look for it next time I visit the Funkatorium. Sounds wonderful!

    Hopsolution-Bell's Brewery

Yet another entrant in the crowded IIPA arena. This one is a foamy, orange-yellow pour that has first impression scents of canned pineapple juice, flavors of a Dole juice blend of pineapple juice, OJ, orange zest and a piney, oily finish. Bell's doesn't quote IBUs anywhere because bitterness is in the mouth of the beerholder, or some such nonsense they claimed somewhere on their website. But, this is a moderately bitter beverage, guessing 80 IBUs and the ABV is a bit thin for the style at "only" 8%. I like Two Hearted Ale better (I know, it's really an IPA.) and Hopslam and Hoptimum from SN are better DIPAs. I'm waiting for fuse to deliver a bottle or two of The Oracle for a comparison . I'd pair this with spicy entrees and have several available for trading during FB season.

    Great cold coffee nose
Thick, rich, dry and like a complex cup of coffee with a cocoa finish.

    Excellent!

Surely you and ricks68 will need hepatocyte transfusions and/or transplants supporting that many more breweries .

The best part is that 3 of them are REALLY close to the Mattman residence.

I should have bought two 4 packs when I was at the brewery. Or, shoulda bought a couple more 4 packs when they had it at Bottle Revolution a couple weeks ago. I'll know better next time.

I just drank my last 16 ounce can of Coco Loco from NoDa Brewing. After sipping half of it, I remembered I was supposed to be saving it for ricks68, I think. It sure was rich and chocolate-y.

A friend of mine had this one recently. Loved it. I'll have to seek it out.

Oh, and don't feel bad, Rick wouldn't have room for it in his beer fridge anyway.

Good point. He and Mrs. ricks need to have another party sometime soon and invite us to help him tidy up that garage fridge a bit.
