    Drink hyper-local :-)

    No head
Nose is chocolate, booze, and perhaps a bit of fruit.

Really nice, thick cherry up front.
    Chocolate, oaky, boozy finish.

    No hiding this 8.5%.

Brueprint started out as a below average to average brewery, that I really wanted to see succeed.

Their beer gets better and better as time goes by.
    Quite impressed by this brew.

    Cheers!
    Cherry Midnight Brue-Brueprint Brewing

Dark Godiva chocolate soda meets Kirschwasser and Jim Beam drops by for a visit. Or maybe this is an old fashioned fountain chocolate cherry coke with a generous shot of Jack Daniels. Or, could it be a semi-sweet chocolate covered cherry with a liquid bourbon center.

I divided this capped bomber over 3 nights and each night it poured a dark mahogany with ruby-tinged edges. Briefly, there were a few bubbles at the periphery of my Alewerks snifter and if you blinked, you missed them. Bourbon up front, in the middle and at the end of each sip with dark chocolate, dark cherries, wood and vanilla checking in, too. I'll guess 50 IBUs as it's an imperial stout that has been aged in bourbon barrels that drinks "bigger" than its 8.5% ABV on the bottle.
My usual suggestions for pairings with an elixir like this would be a) almost anything chocolate, cake or confections b) a black forest cake or c) a warm fire.

Many thanks to fuse for this gem of a find.

If I can remember (good luck), I will look through my beer fridge and see if there is an extra Ninjabread Man somewhere in the back to replace the one you drank. Not promising anything, but I will give it a shot. If I find an extra, I will bring it this weekend for dd. [I can always replace it next year when ABC brews it again------especially since our chef (and one of our owners) at Bhramari came up with the recipe.]

You should taste test it beside Skillet Donut or TenFidy, with a friend, of course. That'd be a helluva side-by-side.

I do have a friend coming to town to help me drink it and he usually does come up with a box full of beer. Surely he will have something to contribute to a side by side tasting

    Burial Scythe Rye IPA

And I think this brings me to the end of the treasure trove of Burial beer courtesy of ricks68.

Not a bad note to end on.

The nose is sugary sweet (pineapple?) and maybe some cinnamon.

Starts with a hoppy spiciness, intermixed with a biscuit doughy breadiness.
The finish might be reminiscent of rye, given I don't drink rye I may not be the best judge.

A really nice IPA with a distinct spin that sets it apart.

    Thanks ricks68!

You're welcome. Got 2 more for you this weekend. Now, if I could just get Mattman to drop by Moe's to taste the special Black Watch before it's gone....😢

Mildly off topic... Bourbon barrel age all the things!

Picked up a bottle of Robert Mondavi Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet today.

Had to order it from my wine guy.
    At $12/bottle, worth sampling.

A very nice drop at the price point.

First can I had, not so impressed, although tasty.

Maybe it is my mood, or my imagination.
Tonight it really does taste like a hoppy strawberry pop tart.

Really liking it- as before, would recommend trying it if you find it.

Just finishing up a large can of this. It's pretty tasty on the front end, a little funky on the back end. Definitely hoppy. Good to try once.

Eight Point IPA-Devil's Backbone Brewing Company

    The story:

"This is the first batch of beer we brewed after the conception of Devils Backbone Brewing Company in 2008. Our brewmaster Jason Oliver was thinking about how to design the IPA when he heard a rustle near his fence line (just touching the woods) where he saw two young proud eight point bucks walking along it. He decided to name the beer after those young bucks as it seemed to fit the spirit of the beer, which is proud, brash, youthful, yet approachable. Citrus, Pine, Snap.
Basecamp Favorites represent our core brewing principles: balance, approachability and trueness to style."

    The beer:

Hops: Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe
    Malts: Pilsen, Caramel, Torrified Wheat

Poured a golden yellow from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass. Generous, foamy head with pine and resin all the way through with a bit of caramel. I don't sense the Simcoe hoops, err, hops, much at all. Reasonably well-balanced brew and a quality IPA in a crowded field. Worth a tasting.

    ABV: 6.2%
    IBU: 60

Really good local, off-the-beaten path, beer

A Sandhills weekend for us. Props to two beer-producers:

Southern Pines Brewery: Sampled their Man-of-Law IPA (12-ounce can), Grand Cru Belgian Dark Strong Ale (mini-growler), and Burnin' Alive Belgian Golden Strong Ale. I have also had their Duck Hook cream ale. All very tasty. The Grand Cru doesn't taste as boozy as the 10+% ABV would indicate. But the Burnin' Alive was my favorite.

Four Saints Brewery (in the other "Ashe," "-boro," that is): Who knew? Great space, right in downtown. Near The Table bakery/coffee shop, which is also awesome. Four Saints sports about a dozen offerings on tap, ranging from a Hefeweizen to a nitro stout. I thought their limited production Belgian dubbel, aged in Cabernet casks, was the best. They wouldn't let me fill a growler of it, though, so I came home with the stout. Really good stuff, so if you are ever going to the zoo (or to play golf at Tot Hill Farm), it is very much worth stopping by.

    2009 Samichlaus

Pours almost like amber maple syrup.

    Smells like honey.

    Viscous, thick on the tongue.
Bitter orange peel, honey and hot booze linger.
Whatever hop profile existed originally is long gone.

Went unbelievably well with grilled cheese.

    No carbonation, no head.

Not for the faint of heart at 14%.

I'm not much of a hard liquor drinker- this would stand up well against a tawny port or a dessert wine.

Cheers to devildeac for sharing from his treasure trove.
