The article brought back many fond and amusing memories of our beer-cation in the northeast last summer.
It's an embarrassment of riches around here. Instead of standing on long lines, we go to the Prohibition Pig for dinner occasionally where you can get
Hill's Farmstead products on tap, usually three or different varieties...and now my wife happens to make routine passes near the Heady Topper provider each
Wednesday (stock up day) so our fridge runneth over...

Glad to see the article you linked mentioned my old home town of Enosburg.

I thought you'd appreciate that article.

If your 'fridge runneth over, I'd be fine if you put some in storage and unloaded it during a trip south in 3-4 months.

If you don't want to pay extra, you could spend one afternoon/evening just walking down the South Slope. You can stop by Green Man, Asheville Brewing Co., Burial Beer, Hiwire, Twin Leaf, and the Funkatorium (Wicked Weed's new sour/barrel aged facility). If you come in April, the new Catawba Brewing tasting room should be open (right across from twin leaf). All of those breweries are literally within a block or two of each other.

If the weather is nice, I would recommend going over to West Asheville to visit Wedge Brewing. Most of the seating is outdoors, and they always have a food truck or two for alcohol absorbing purposes. Other West Asheville Breweries are Altamont, Oyster House, and soon-to-be New Belgium. If you dig cider, you can also check out Urban Orchard Cider Company.

I should be free to meet up any weekend in February, other than the 14th. Be sure to post in advance of when you decide to come down(up?).
Definitely agree with Mattman on this. Beer tours will limit you some. I'm sure I could pitch in along with Mattman and Mountain Devil, although Mattman has it laid out really well, I think, for a crowded 2 days. After that, you could hit One World and the LAB before heading out to Highland and Pisgah if you can stay over.

Realistically, however, I would bet that you get stuck in a few of those Mattman mentioned because the beer is just too good to move on.

You already mentioned to me about when. just not how many days. Oh, would you be able to get in some good brews in that amount of time..

By the way, have you, or any of the guys, taken a trip over to Duck Rabbit? It's real close to Raleigh. I think their Milk Stout Porter is wonderful.

Duck Rabbit is in Farmville and I'd guess is about 75 miles away. I've never visited. Do you mean their delicious Milk Stout or their even better Baltic Porter?

I haven't tried the Baltic, but their other darks are also supposed to be wonderful. Heck, 75 miles is nothing compared to travelling twice that distance for an outstanding BBQ lunch in Texas----and then driving back. (Also, good for keeping you in business.)

Can't stay around much longer, as Janise and I are heading out to hit a brewery before our usual late dinner.

I would expect Mattman to fill everyone in on the Winter Beer Fest pretty soon, as it ends at 7:00. (If he is able to type.)

I'm thinking he may not even be able to move, let alone have fine motor/visual capacities/skills after 4-6 hours of a beerfest.

Anyone heading north this summer needs to add trillium in Boston to their list. I can only get up to VT a handful of times each year but trillium is a worthy alternative. Great beer and can't beat standing in line to buy beer that is being bottled as you wait.

Estimated win total for K when he retires?

With 1000 in the book, what"s the all-time number?

    I'm gonna guess at 1285.

That's based on at least a few assumptions, obviously. Health, endurance, desire, success all being part of it.

Wish I could find one of these tomorrow to celebrate:

One of these might be better:

Maybe an Olde School will do.

Maybe one of these would work too: http://www.dogfish.com/brews-spirits...sand/index.htm

Especially you can find the boxed set with the record

I'd probably do almost anything to get a bottle/4 pack/case of that. Got any connections?

Article in the Raleigh News and Observer this am.

    Quote from article:

“Well, we serve the best food of all,” said Adam Eckhardt, co-founder and co-owner of Crank Arm. “We serve beer.”

Actual title in the printed edition:

"The Greatest Food of All Is Beer"

    End of discussion.

Had an opportunity to pick some up in Maryland in December.
The store looked like it had plenty. Alas, when I went back to buy instead of window shop, it was gone.

Sadly no. DFH distribution on rarish beers is pretty limited here in FL. I actually became aware of it via my BIL in Wisconsin. His favorite liquor store had a small amount they were distributing through a lottery system. His number wasn't called. Which is sad for me because I would have begged him to hold off on sampling it until my next visit.

Hmmm, BIL in Wiscy. Could you get him to pick up a few cases of New Glarus products and visit fuse and me (or, in colloquial English, me and fuse) as he drives through NC to visit you in FL sometime.

My parents, who also live in Wisconsin, do occasionally drive down to visit me (really their 3 yr old grandson) and supply me with New Glarus products. The closest they get on their way down to Durham, however, is Atlanta. If you and Fuse ever come through Orlando I could stash some for you. Probably be cheaper than renting a U-haul and driving back from Wisconsin

Or if I ever come up to Durham say, in autumn during football season, I would be sure to bring some up too. When my son gets old enough to appreciate/remember it in a couple of years I definitely do want to try and bring him up for a late season football game/early season basketball game. Cheers!

I am alive! I survived my second winter warmer. I will post my thoughts on a few of the samplings I enjoyed, and the ones I wish I would have passed on.

You now have an open, permanent invitation to visit our tent/tailgate group any time during FB season.
