    Another new-ish hop to me:

    Some deets:

"Formerly known as Belgian Saaz or B Saaz, Motueka is a premier New Zealand hop. Developed by HortResearch, this triploid was bred from Saaz and an unnamed New Zealand breeding strain and lends itself well to Lagers, Pilsners and Belgian Ales."

    More about Motueka hops:

"It makes an excellent dual-use hop, carrying an exciting fruit aroma with refreshing notes of tropical fruit and citrus. It can be used at any point during the brewing process and works well in sweet, malty and fruity beers. Massachusetts brewery brewmaster Jack uses Motueka in a Maibock and Sierra Nevada brewery also debuted their Southern Hemisphere Harvest fresh hops ale in April 2014 using Motueka, along with Southern Cross, as its finishing hops."

Not quite ready yet. A little green and not fully carbonated yet. Smells nice!

Sidenote; may need to change the "March Sadness" name.

Expensive but totally worth the splurge. I may never try to obtain any Dark Lords again, but, have enjoyed one shared by our son last month and still have 4 of my own.

Do you think your husband will name it similar to the porter explosion name or something quite different. I've got a couple ideas...

For those who inquired (you *know* who you are ), the recipe in question has been located and sent to your PM. I won't take up bandwith posting it here, but, sometimes thread titles matter little.

An imperial stout or porter pairs nicely with these delicacies however.

Some old opthalmic/gustatory/olfactory tests; some stats, too:

"And, in the clean-up spot (mixing FB and BB jargon ):

CBS (Canadian Breakfast Stout) 2019-Founders Brewing Company, aka Mahou San Miguel Group

Credit-August West who almost always seems to bring better beer than I do to tailgates ; mountains of thanks!!
Style-take KBS and throw it into bourbon barrels whose prior resident was maple syrup
Format-12 ounce bottle, first time ever IIRC
Apperance-almost black with a moderate beige head
Aromas-coffee, dark chocolate, maple syrup and bourbon
    Mouthfeel-silky
Tastes-pretty much as anticipated from the scents; the coffee and chocolate are primary and the booze and syrup are a bit more subdued
    IBU-60ish
    ABV-11.3%
    Overall impression-holy schnitzengiggles; world class
Ymm, Beer rating-top shelf cat 3; totally worth the $20-24 you'd spend for a quartet of these; buy 2 so you can age/trade/share

We're 4/4 here on our drives. A nearly flawless performance at the tent so far."

    Oooh, something even older:

"Canadian Breakfast Stout (draft)-Founders Brewing Company

I thought they brewed this for the last time in 2017 but davec tipped us off that it was available earlier this month in his area and upon reviewing the tap list at Bottle Revolution before leaving the office this evening, I discovered this listed and simply could not resist, never having tasted it before, despite having two 750 ml bottles from 2017 aging in the "cellar." It's an imperial stout that is brewed with chocolate and a blend of coffees before being aged for over a year in spent bourbon barrels that were most recently aging maple syrup.

Half pint pour ($6) was a dark, dark brown with a sliver of a tan head. Coffee, coffee, coffee, then dark chocolate, dark maple syrup/brown sugar, followed by bourbon scents tickled my nose. Pretty java forward tastes, much moreso than 2017 was the claim by the owner, which were escorted by semi-sweet chocolate, heavily roasted grains and dark caramel stickiness with a warming whiskey-ish closing. I'll guess IBUs about 40 and the ABV was a stunningly smooth 11.7%. This sold out last week (I never got my beer club email) but the owner said he *might* get another case or two and promised to save me a bottle if he did.

Another "white whale" checked of the beer bucket list ."

And, from another former poster from >9 years ago:

"Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout--Here is the description from Founders--"Canadian Breakfast Stout is an Imperial Stout brewed with a blend of coffees and imported chocolates, then aged in spent bourbon barrels that have most recently been aging pure Michigan maple syrup." They finally bottled this draft only beer as part of a series of special releases. My local bottle shop received 4 bottles of these a month or so back when it was released and I was lucky enough to get one of them. Shared the bottle with a few family members today after dinner instead of pie. I can easily say this was the best stout I've ever had and possibly the best beer overall. Decadent is probably the best way to describe it. Pours a rich thick black with a very thin head. The expected tastes of bitter coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, sweet maple syrup are all present but what separates this beer from several others is how well those tastes are blended together. Heavy and thick like the richest dessert but frighteningly smooth without the booziness and bite of some of my other favorite stouts (Bourbon County Stout). An incredible beer that exceeded all expectations.."
