    Rye on Rye-Boulevard Brewing Company

(this is a variant of the 2015 beer above)

Pretty far from local, unless you're in Kansas

Credit-a keen eye, a brewery reputation and a few extra bucks several months ago
    Style-flavored, barrel aged ale ()
    Format-12 ounce bottle
    Please enjoy by-16MAR2021 D L 031620 13:16
    Stemware-Founders snifter
Appearance-dark amber and clear with a smallish off white, short lived head
    Nose-whiskey, must and maple
    Mouthfeel-soft
Tastes-dark caramel, whiskey, maple syrup, brown sugar, light herbal/earthy hops, vanilla, wood and a bit of mustiness
    Adjuncts-maple syrup
    Barrels-Templeton rye
    IBU-16
    ABV-13.2% (frighteningly smooth)
Overall impression-good gravy, I shoulda bought this the first time I saw it; very well blended/aged/crafted
Ymm, Beer rating-low/mid cat 3; a notch below their BBA Quad but still an outstanding creation; happy to have 3 left

    Amusing stuff with another variant:

Sadly, "This beer is no longer being produced by the brewery."

    15.5% ABV

Roadside Prophet (draft-2019)-New Anthem Beer Project

Close enough for local (Wilmington, NC)

    Credit-free sample/taster of 2 oz
    Style-flavored RIS
    Serving vessel-2 ounce plastic cup
    Appearance-pretty darn dark
    Nose-dark chocolate and peppers
    Mouthfeel-smooth and warm
Tastes-dark chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon and mild heat
Adjuncts-cocoa nibs, vanilla, cinnamon and 3 peppers (): Habanero, Serrano and Poblanos
    IBU-maybe 50
Scoville heat units-somewhere between 1,000 (Poblano) and 100,000-350,000 (Habanero) with a middle ground of 10,000-25,000 (Serrano)
    ABV-11%
Overall impression-must be a weenie pepper beer as I liked this and would've have a half pint of this but I was my own designated driver
Ymm, Beer rating-low cat 3; the cocoa, vanilla and cinnamon tone the heat down to a sippable/enjoyable level

I've heard of that. A few more details, please...

Port wine or rum barrel finished?

Rum barrel. Absurdly balanced And smooth rye whiskey. Butterscotch, vanilla, butter rum.

The only way to mess it up is to mix it with anything other than a few drops of water.

Fascinating, a rum barrel-aged rye whiskey. I might not even mess with the few drops of water if it was <100 proof.

A few drops of water (only) help it open up. Not a mixer — just an important taste enhancer.

I would think an ice cube ruins it — this is a room temp sip. On the rocks would be a crime.

Will have to put that distillery tour on the list for KY Bourbon Trail, Part 2 when travel becomes attractive again.

We had two or three 115+ proof tastes in March. Lotta "heat" there.

Angel’s Envy is a supreme distiller IM_O. The mainline bourbon is the best Old Fashioned and the best Manhattan bourbon going.

A favorite, and now I need to look for it again this year. Look out total wine!

Sorry I missed all this discussion last night, but it did give me a chance to listen to a great cover this morning.

Ha! I asked if you wanted me to pick up a 4 pack for you several months ago...

    Stout Day selection

Went with Founders CBS last night, breaking into one of my few remaining bottles (since they will "never" brew it again). A wonderful bourbon barrel aged beer, one of my all-time favorites. Quite dark with very little head, hints of bourbon and a little sweetness from the maple syrup (it's aged in bourbon barrels which previously held maple syrup).

Great beer. I almost poured one of my remaining 4-5 bottles last PM but heard the call of a (Dire) Wolf instead (from the "other" Columbus). More later.

Ahh, I didn't know that. I knew you liked the BBA Quad a bit better and figured you had several 4 packs of that brew but not the Rye on Rye.
