    Drink someone else's local!

    Credit-accfanfrom1970; thanks!!
    Format-12 ounce bottle
Appearance-a clean, clear, light gold with a thin, fizzy head
Nose-sage (no parsley, rosemary, thyme or grouse)
    Mouthfeel-light, bubbly
Tastes-sage, then hints of apple, pear and straw; didn't perceive much sweet potato and neither did younger son-in-law who shared the bottle with me
    IBU-28
    ABV-6.4%
Overall impression-an interesting and well-executed "light" beer; I'd serve with grilled, non-BBQ'd pork or chicken or a plate of pasta with marinara
    Ymm, Beer rating-solid cat 2
    From dinner time:

Sweet Potato and Sage-Ardent Craft Ales

    Local for the purchasing agent.

    Credit-accfanfrom1970; thanks!!
Style-flavored saison ("spiced beer" on label)
Format-pint can; no more of those old fashioned bottles (for now )
    Stemware-large wineglass
Appearance-minimally hazy light gold; fleeting, fizzy head
    Nose-lotsa sage; tuberous
    Mouthfeel-a little bubbly
Tastes-plenty more sage with some apples and pears; not sure I get the sweet potatoes
Adjuncts-there *might* be sweet potatoes and sage in here
    IBU-28
    ABV-6.4%
Overall impression-well worth another visit; especially good with the grilled salmon, roasted asparagus and almond rice pilaf I mentioned above
Ymm, Beer rating-upper cat 2; delighted for the delivery

No offense to sage (or Mrs. Grouse), but I really like a good sweet potato beer (hello Fullsteam!).

Ok, you "made" me research "top sweet potato ales" and it yielded this article and buncha brews I'd never heard of on Untappd.

Monkey's Uncle-Center of the Universe Brewing Company

Local for one particular beer mule.

    Credit-Nrrrrvous; thanks!!
    Style-tripel with spices
    Temporary residence-tall, aluminum cylinder
    Stemware-large wine glass
Appearance-light gold; moderate, fizzy, clingy head
    Nose-gardenesque
    Mouthfeel-tiny bubbles
Tastes-light brown sugar, flowers, orange liqueur, lemon grass (), pinch of black pepper
    Adjuncts-Belgian candi sugar and lemongrass
    IBU-26
    ABV-9.5%
    Overall impression-quality stuff
Ymm, Beer rating-low cat 3; another impressive product from Ashland, VA; will keep trading for their goodies ()

Credit-RJ199's review and my Visa card
Style-rum barrel aged imperial stout with flavors (see below)
    Stemware-Stella snifter from RJ199
Appearance-onyx; small tan head; some particles floating on top but not as many as the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Hornswoggler
Nose-dark rum; dark chocolate; vanilla; cinnamon
    Mouthfeel-viscous
Tastes-complex interweavings of dark chocolate fudge, rum, vanilla, toasted coconut, wood, cinnamon and more rum
    IBU-probably 50
ABV-a life threatening 14.4% (higher than the draft RJ199 had) and not hidden
Overall impression-pure liquid decadence; rum fudge in a glass
Ymm, Beer rating-unquestionably cat 3; happy to have 3 remaining which I'll share or sip over the next 3-6 months
    From Friday and Saturday nights:

    Blackbeard's Bear Hug-Bell's Brewery

    Still not local.

    Credit-patience
    Style-^^^^
Format-12 ounce bottle divided over 2 nights
    Shelf life-unlimited
    Stemware-small Duke Fuqua snifter
Appearance-same as above but I think all the coconut particles organized a meeting during the last 11 months
    Nose-even rummier, I think
    Mouthfeel-direct from the crankcase
    Tastes-^^^^; maybe even more rummier
    IBU-ditto
    ABV-14.4%; really, really high octane
    Overall impression-fudge cake?
Ymm, Beer rating-lost nothing with aging (unlike some posters ); would buy another 4 pack of this if they ever brew this again

    A preview (from June, 2020):

    https://tenemu.com/news/olde-hickory...r-july/06/2020

"Next month, Olde Hickory Brewery in Hickory, N.C. says that it will be releasing Acan, an imperial brown ale brewed with sweet agave and aged for 16 months in tequila barrels. According to Steven Lyerly, master brewer at Olde Hickory Brewery, “folks with aversions to tequila might not like it, oh well.” The beer boasts a 12 percent ABV which makes it a “nicely dry” brown ale, according to the brewery."
