Saw this on a Lowe’s Foods run and was totally intrigued. Ale aged in foeder barrels. I think it had been sitting awhile, as the head was super foamy. A nice mocha color to the beer, though, and the head dissipated eventually. Good wood flavors. Some hints of caramel and a little vanilla. A touch of bitterness, but a long finish. 10% ABV. Mid to high Cat 2.

Remains awesome. Probably as “juicy” a stout as you’ll find. Aging has mellowed the barrel aging flavors and smoothed some of the harshness out of it. Remains a terrific Cat 3 beer.

Nice find. As I've said before, Collaboration Not Litigation.

That is intriguing, especially with "solera" in the name and from New Holland.

    From last PM:

Lord Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise-Casita Brewing Company (a sorta new name and a new location but not updated on the label yet)

90ish miles away is still local

    Credit-RJ199 and the beergoddess; thanks!!
    Style-Baltic porter ("for quiet enjoyment)
    Serving size-pint, aluminumized
    Stemware-Dogfish Head nonic pint
Freshness dating-five smudged numbers on top rim of can
    Appearance-deep, dark brown; mocha head
    Nose-burnt coffee and caramel; licorice
    Mouthfeel-roasty, real roasty
Tastes-some burnt pumpernickel toast, espresso, earth, licorice, burnt caramel
Malts-German and Belgian (OPK and the beergoddess must've talked to the brewer )
Special note-"fermented cool and conditioned cold" (why? a baltic porter is a dark/black lager)
Pairing ideas-would be ideal with most smoked bovine entrees
    IBU-30ish
    ABV-9.3%
Overall impression-quite flavorful; not my favorite style and not a popular style but I enjoyed this
Ymm, Beer rating-upper tier cat 2; as interesting as Hardywood's Baltic Sunrise

Every Hour Is Grace (draft)-Compass Rose Brewery

Yep, same local as Life Moves Pretty Fast.

Credit-good beertender who offered tastes of both
    Style-NEIPA
    Appearance-hazy pineapple juice
Nose-a bit more citrus than Life Moves
    Mouthfeel-similar
    Tastes-more citrus than tropical
Hops-Sabro, Mosaic and Meridian (new to me)
    IBU-22
    ABV-6.5%
Overall impression-a slight edge to Life Moves
Ymm, Beer rating-mid/upper cat 2; would certainly order a full serving of this

Forgot my mini growler but I *might* go back tomorrow for this one:

Cute Pics-Compass Rose Brewery (collaboration with Vicious Fishes)

    Sounds delicious:

"Brewed in collaboration with our friends at Vicious Fishes, this Belgian Waffle Pastry Stout was mashed with freshly baked waffles and Biscoff cookies, brewed with dark candi syrup, Biscoff cookie butter, cinnamon sticks, maple syrup, and dark chocolate; then conditioned on pureed Blackberries and more maple syrup"

    No oven or toaster needed.

Hot take: The Porch is the best restaurant in Winston-Salem. And to properly enjoy their splendid menu of Tex-Mex delicacies one needs to consume at least 1 Shiner Bock. Prove me wrong.

I'll let the 336 contingent discuss this one.

Surely you have Shiner Bock thoughts. I would call it a good beer that is great with BBQ or Tex-Mex.

Enjoyed the meet up yesterday at Compass Rose. Great beer and better company. Can't wait to do it again.

I'll be doing an Oktoberfest head to head this afternoon.

Foothills Oktoberfest vs Center of the Universe Oktoberfest (thanks, Nrrrrvous!)

About as close to local as I'm able to obtain.

Credit-prior experience and a good meeting place with a 19 item draft list
    Style-NEIPA
    Drinking vessel-tumbler
    Appearance-hazy juice; small, fluffy head
    Nose-tropical fruit bowl
    Mouthfeel-mild bitterness yet fruity
    Tastes-orange, rind, pineapple and tangerine
Hops-Idaho 7, Zythos (new to me) and Citra cryo
    IBU-27
    ABV-6.5%
    Overall impression-good quality NEIPA
Ymm, Beer rating-upper tier cat 2; there are a lot of NEIPAs on the market and I'd sip this again and recommend a serving to anyone visiting the area
This may have been my favorite of the day. Solid Cat 2 for sure. I meant to check to see if they had it available in cans

I've heard good things, but have not tried it yet. It is on the list!

WRT Shiner Bock, I have surprisingly never had one.

Love The Porch! Haven’t had a Shiner in years.

    New Glarus Belgian Red

It’s earned all the great reviews, it is delicious. As they say a marriage of beer and wine and fruit. Crisp, tart - maybe the best fruit beer I’ve had. As good or better than Veil. Thanks to Devildeac, can’t wait to try the raspberry. Great to start the day with a world class beer! Cat 4.

Pound for pound New Glarus beers are up there with anybody. I can't wait to try the Belgian Red. Assuming we get though this pandemic, we are taking a delayed trip to Europe to celebrate my daughter's high school graduation and she chose Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg as the destination. Needless to say, I am IMPOSSIBLY excited to go to Belgium. History, mussels, beer, chocolate (I am Keto but will moderate for the trip). What a country.

Ahh, ok. I was staying out of the restaurant discussion . I'd agree with good beer. Haven't had one in over a decade probably but I'd agree with your pairings and would likely add deli sammiches and simple grilled fare like chicken breasts and burgers to the list.

I only had two 10 ounces portions yesterday along with a "taster" and liked the Contractual Obligations a tiny bit better.

I paid little attention to what Compass Road had available in cans, mostly because I anticipated trunk loads of liquid goodies from accfanfrom1970 and Nrrrvous and both gentlemen delivered way beyond expectations.

This is also another good Shiner beer:
