It's not Summer any more, or is it?

Cent #2: The closer to a steady mid-to-low 50-degree temperature, the better.

I have a closet in our basement (and the basement has stained cement floors) in which I store wine and beer laying on their sides in a wine rack. The "lay on the side" is to keep the cork moist; some beer bottles won't need that. I only open the door, on average, once a day (some days not at all; some a couple of times), and it stays at a relatively stable temperature in the coolest place in the house. I have some beers that have been in there three'ish years, and some wine bottles that have been there more than five. And so far, so good.

    Again: YMMV.

A dark closet is likely second best as our garage gets to 80+ degrees in the summer but all the bottles are in light-proof cartons and I've had very good success with very little skunking for a almost a couple decades now. WRT the Bourbon County, I'd wait until the 2020 release in late November and then do a side-by-side (with a friend, of course, as those bad boys are close to 15% ABV, IIRC).

If you have a Total Wine in your area, you *might* find some older vintages of the Black Butte as I did last year, coming up with XXV, XXVI, XXVII and XXIX, IIRC. If so, I'd do a vertical or three this fall/winter, again, with several friends.

My strategy is fridge first, in house in a wine box second.
Thanks. The fridge it is, though maybe I can put them in a box or something to keep them more protected from the light. It's the overflow/beverage fridge in the laundry room vs the main fridge in the kitchen, but it still gets opened multiple times a day.

    Celis White

Fuse (I think) mentioned Celis brewery at the virtual pub and it is indeed back: https://www.celisbeers.com/

Apparently his daughter acquired the naming rights and is using his original recipes, plus more modern stuff. The current incarnation opened in 2017, but per Wikipedia had to declare bankruptcy in 2019.

Repeating/reminder for invite to Compass Rose Brewery tomorrow at 300 PM. Nothing virtual/fake about this. Obligatory weather reference is very favorable. They may have a pastry stout on tap but no appliances will be needed.

I have fond memories of several varieties of Celis beers from >20 years ago.

We had discussed Wild Wolf Brewing's Blonde Hunny a while back. Was going to pick up a sixer for you guys in NC simply because it's good, easy to drink and readily available around here. So much for that. I was told that they had closed but then found out that they didn't close, they just no longer distribute. You have to visit them. Too bad they are in the middle of nowhere...

No problems. Mrs. dd would likely be rather upset if I came home with a Blonde Hunny...

Apologies for the delay (from Tuesday):

Bourbon Barrel Aged Raisin Pecan Chocolate Pie (draft)-Southern Pines Brewing Company

    Close enough to call local.

    Credit-Tripping William's education and a device rep's expense account
    Style-above (pastry stout!!)
    Storage container-keg
Stemware-half pint plastic cup (hey, it was a before dinner dessert )
    Appearance-liquid fudge; thin, mocha head
    Nose-chocolate and bourbon
    Mouthfeel-high viscosity
Tastes-Angus Barn chocolate chess pie with a ladle of raisin pecan sauce and a shot of Kentucky's finest; hint of coffee (not added)
    Adjuncts-contained in name
    IBU-70 (surprising)
    ABV-10.3%
Overall impression-superb, but I almost needed a glucometer for a finger stick blood sugar check after drinking this
Ymm, Beer rating-mid/upper cat 3; loses a point for its almost cloying sweetness but not Southern Tier sweet; highly recommended

I had a pint of this last night (might be my last can), and it is like motor-oil thick. And definitely on the sweet side. But still terrific.

I'm obviously too far away to attend, but I feel like someone has to have one of these.

    Local indeed!!

Credit-RJ199 and the beergoddess trader; many thanks!!
    Format-pint can
Style-wood fermented and fruited Flanders style red ale
Date data-06/17/20 (a wonderful day to package a beer and have a birthday )
    Stemware-large Ommegang tulip
Appearance-a beautiful reddish brown with little head
    Nose-sour berry/cherry vinegar
    Mouthfeel-acidic
Tastes-cherries, blueberries, wet wood, vinegar and wine

Overall impression-reminded me of Rodenbach's fantastic Character Rouge from OPK's Belgian Virtual Pub with obviously slightly different fruity elements
Ymm, Beer rating-mid/upper cat 3; a terrific Belgian-style sour; paired wonderfully with a grilled chicken and mixed green salad with berries and apples

Probably my favorite quote from the article:

"Don’t raid the kids’ trick-or-treat stash. Track down a bottle (or two or three) of some adult candy."
