Growlers and crowlers are not the same as canned or bottled beer, which at least in theory are processed to keep air out.

While glass growlers can have the top put back on, they can’t be resealed.
The theoretical advantage of the crowler is it is more like canning the way the top is attached post pour than simply screwing on a top.

Glass is supposed to be good for a day or two, crowlers maybe a bit longer (4 days? Six days?)

Anyway, once you let the air in the growler/crowler by opening it, you are now experiencing the beer as good as its going to be.
Reclosable top or not, won’t be the same tomorrow or the day after.
May not be bad, will be different (and maybe flat).

Anyway, I do not take beer that seriously.
I do tend to plan around once the crowler/growler is open, its a single session with however many folks are interested in sharing it.

All in good fun- if you enjoy it, that’s what matters.
Far from pedantic and pointless and certainly not a needless post.

These are all good points. I've had a couple high ABV mini-crowlers I've divided over 3 days. First/same day fresh was wonderful. Second day had less head but not stale. I wasn't ready to drain pour the last 10-11 ounces on day 3 and it wasn't stale/oxidized, but it was not as good a product.

    Lemon, grapefruit, and pineapple nose.

Muddy gold is a great description of the colour.

Opening note for me is watermelon, followed by a lush cornucopia of tropical fruit salad, with a grapefruit bitter finish.

I rushed, so its still a little too cold. I imagine as it warms up it will get even better and its already quite enjoyable.

    Thanks rj199 and thebeergoddess!

Hmm, will have to see if this makes it to the NC coast this weekend or remains on the reserve roster.

Had 2 on this list, most I’ve not heard of, or seen, or may have heard of the brewery by reputation.
I'll check in with two from that list, also. I've heard of about half the breweries.

I get a lot of lemon on the nose.

Lemon and vanilla is what I taste, with a prickly bitter finish.

Another rj199 delivery special, quite tasty!

Credit-why, it's Irish beer themed Virtual Pub and I couldn't resist this one
Style-not just any stock ale but a stock ale that's a blend of Guinness' imperial stout AND barleywine ale (who knew they brewed either, let alone both?), both aged in Bulleit bourbon barrels
Format-11.2 ounces on these shores (330 ml from abroad); $20/4 pack
    Stemware-snifter
Appearance-clean/clear dark brown with hints of ruby; small tan head
Mouthfeel-a bit thin, but not surprising given it's blending; smooth
Tastes-quite complex; dark roast grains, leather, tobacco, chocolate, burnt toffee, vanilla, wood, raisins, dates, figs and dark cherries
    IBU-guessing about 60
ABV-10%; quite a smooth sipper over probably 45 minutes
Overall impression-delighted to have 3 more of these to age over the next 6-12 month or maybe trade one or two
Ymm, Beer rating-low/mid cat 3; worth finding; different than the "original" Guinness stout (imported from Dublin and aged in Bulleit barrels in Baltimore) without barleywine from maybe 2018
    From a couple nights ago:

    Stock Ale-same brewery

Well, I traded one and only aged bottle #3 for two more months . I don't think it was much different second time around. I'll really try to cellar my final bottle for another 4-6 months. Really. Maybe.

Signing out until late tonight. Should be able to report on an RJ199 trader before the bell tolls midnight.

    A comparison of local blondes.

Sycamore Southern Girl vs. Fiddlin’ Fish Buena Vista.

The former: Dark gold color. The latter: Much lighter.

Sycamore: Deep and rich flavors. FF: More “bite.”

Sycamore claims hints of strawberry and honeydew melon. FF has a more hoppy vibe going on.

All told, Sycamore wins for me (and pretty easily). Not to say FF is a bad beer, but it was just a tad watery and not quite up to the overall deliciousness of the Sycamore. You go, Southern Girl Blonde!

    Interesting, thanks!

This got me thinking - how long is a growler good for unopened vs a crowler.

Google tells me an unopened growler of beer starts degrading anywhere from right after 3 days to 2-5 weeks. The quality of the seal matters. But some sites say the growler beer still starts getting worse after 3 days with a good seal.

The crowler keeps the beer fresh for about a month unless you play football with it.

No clue so would welcome any corrections or opinions.

Saloop - Fonta Flora - 8% - DIPA - DDH with Azacca, Enigma, and Idaho 7 and aged on locally foraged sassafras leaves, and lemon and lime zest.

This is an underrated gem of a brewery. Their beers always taste so fresh and herbal.

Golden honey pour with lemon-lime aroma.

The taste is flavor after flavor after flavor. Starts lime zest > lemon. Then herbal sassafras is subtle, but works super-well with all the flavors. This is followed by a west-coast, lingering bitter hoppy finish that is surprisingly refreshing. Everything is balanced, and it drinks very easily.

Highest of Category 2. Definitely worth trying if you see it.

That'll be a DNP-CD this weekend. Maybe next week. Hopefully, the transfer portal is not open this weekend.

Might not be able to vouch for a month on the crowlers, but, when I got twinsies of 4 different New Holland Brewing crowlers on the devildeacs' great midwest beercation and Duke Football tour almost 4 years ago, I think they were several days old when delivered to fuse and it likely took another week at least, maybe two, for consumption.
