Debating what to tee up for tomorrow night's post-call beverage/s.

Certainly one will have to be from RJ199's recent delivery...

Try the Commonwealth Intergalactic (in honor of SpaceX). It starts off with some West Coast bitter hoppiness. But as it warms a little and you get used to it, it's really good fresh hops and tropical flavors on the finish. Lemme know what you think.

It'll be on a very short list, likely at the top. Good suggestion. Might have to have half a 12 ounce bottle or 1/3 of a large format bottle as a nightcap/late liquid dessert.

Had my eye on this, and thanks to richardjackson199 and beergoddess, I get to try it!

Pours a brassy gold, minimal head.

The nose is spicy, woodsy, difficult to place.
I want to say cinnamon and that is completely, totally wrong.
Almost like a very mild, very pleasant cologne.

The description of Torn Paper Leaves Brazilian Oak is golden ale aged on amburana wood spirals.
No idea what amburana wood is 🤔

    Wow. Wow. Wow.

Golden ale is an undersell- the long description on the can says Belgian style tripel. This is a beer that would have been right at home in the last virtual pub.

Honeyed sweetness flows into a spicy mid palate before finishing dry.

I wish I could pull out all the melange of flavour in this beer.
We may be making a pick up trip to Saxapahaw.

A brilliant beer- thank you, richardjackson199 and beergoddess!

    Cheers all! 🍻
Just had this one in an Orval Chalice. Everything is just as you described. I've never had a beer with a nose like that. You can see why this amburana wood is popular - it's fun. Woodsy, vanilla, cinnamon cologne sounds right to me.

On the taste, I also got the faintest hint of banana note with the honey, spicy mid, and dry finish of the Tripel.

    Interesting fun beer!

I was surprised to see this at the world's largest Harris Teeter (the one in Pinehurst). So, I grabbed a four-bagger. Pours a hazy yellow. Off-white head. Hints of pineapple and mango. The hops are really well structured, with a lot of juiciness on the palate. A hint of bitterness on the aftertaste. 6.0% ABV. I'm guessing IBUs in the mid-50s. A really solid Cat 2 beer, even if not a standout.

As a late reminder, 4 beer flights at Salty Turtle are $8 but *might* be $5 on Mondays, saving a few $ for that barrel-aged 2018 barleywine you really, really want that I just noted on Untappd for their current taps.

    Three Notch'd Passionfruit Gose

Saturday afternoon found me sitting on the deck with a beer in hand...
    IMG_7583.jpg

Three Notch'd has always been a favorite spot in Richmond to stop and have a pint. The brewery is in Charlottesville, haven't been there yet. I picked up a 4-pack of these while up at Smith Mountain Lake. They call it a German Sour Ale, seems about right. They also have a Blackberry Gose and Watermelon Gose. Would love to give them a try sometime.

Poured beautifully into a pint glass. As you can see. Nice clear golden color, plenty of carbonation.

    ABV - 5.1%
    IBU - 08

Loads of Passionfruit up front with a few other flavors blended in (Lime?) Tart on the back end but not enough to detract. Perfect spring, sunny afternoon, kind of beer. I've actually enjoyed just about everything I've had from Three Notch'd and this one didn't disappoint.

Easy 2 for me, toward the upper border to 3.

With that photo, I'm surprised any beer stayed in the glass . (that coming from someone who is unable to post any pix here )

The Veil Never Never Calm Calm

Sunday afternoon found me sitting on the deck of a local restaurant in Moneta overlooking a small cove of Smith Mountain Lake with Mrs. Nrrrrvous. Jake's Place. They did an excellent job of keeping everyone distanced. Tables were easily 6' apart, being scrubbed vigorously with buckets of some concoction between diners. Menus were only on-line. paper napkins, plastic cups etc. Felt about as safe as we could get and still eat out.

OK, enough about Jake's. I ordered a Veil Never Never Calm Calm on draft, no description other than "fruit beer".

    Never Never.jpg

    ABV - 5.1
IBU - ? (Negative Integers Allowed?)

I was a bit surprised at first, thinking they had brought me an orange juice by accident. This beer would be right at home in next months virtual pub beside the Milkshake IPAs and Fruit Beers.

Strong passionfruit and pineapple up front, and in the middle, and finally tapers off to a bit more passionfruit and pineapple flavor toward the end. I would call this thing anything but traditional.

Still, I ended up enjoying it immensely. Paired well with my veggie pizza with plenty of jalapenos and banana peppers.

I had heard The Veil Brewing was known for their fruited beers and I visited their location in Richmond a couple years ago, don't remember what I had but remember it being tasty. Will definitely sample more when given the opportunity.

Not a traditional 2 but a 2 just the same.

OK, I give up. No matter how many times I rotate an image and save it, it still turns sideways. You guys will just have to tilt your head a little to the left to look at my beer porn...

Yep. Several of the Veil sours/NEIPAs I've had have been met with a ,"WTH-this is beer?!?!?!" I think they're a great brewery.

Given the lack of any reports as promised from mattman on his visit to the South Slope, I'm guessing he really went to South Carolina instead...
